Mostly the same as what I noted earlier except Ginvony is convinced Ellington should head back to college after the camp. Lawson was superb and Green’s ankle is setting him back.
Danny Green
Also on the negative side of the spectrum we found Danny Green (forcing the issue way too much, especially from behind the arc [0-4], and looking clearly hobbled by his sprained left ankle)
Wayne Ellington
The second game was fairly weak as far as big time draft prospects were concerned. The most intriguing story might have been the incredibly poor play of North Carolina shooting guard Wayne Ellington—projected by some as a first round pick, but looking like anything but one from what we’ve seen in the first two days so far. Ellington was 1 of 8 from the field until the game was pretty much over with two minutes left and he managed to make his boxscore look somewhat respectable with two garbage-time baskets. He forced a number of shots badly, dribbled the ball off his foot on his way to 6 painful turnovers, played poor defense and did not grab even a single rebound in 27 minutes. He finished the game with 8 points, and is looking like he’ll be on the first plane back to Chapel Hill to kick off his junior season once this camp is over unless he can turn things around in a major way.
Ty Lawson
Ty Lawson was a cut above everyone else on the floor here, showing incredible quickness taking an outlet pass and getting his team out in transition, and fantastic court vision finding open teammates on the move. He made the game very simple for all of his teammates, as all they had to do was run with him and make sure their hands were ready for the pass. He got to the rim and finished only semi-well (his size hurts him here), converting 4 of 10 shots for 10 points and 4 assists, and also played terrific defense on Lester Hudson. He slowed down in his second stint of playing time in the second half, but the strong impression he needed to make was already felt. We’ll be watching him in the drills tomorrow to see how he shoots the ball, something that is very important for him. He had not stood out prior to this game at all.

I have to say that watching the game with Ellington in it and the one with Lawson in it (both on ESPNU, sorry was not live (lol)) the first Heel just looked like one of many in the game and I do not see him anywhere close to being the type of player that “made heads turn”. However Lawson (in my opinion) was one of (if not the) best in the game.

According to IC premium reports, Lawson had the scouts talking and animated about his play.
There is another rundown on nbadraft.net, where they point out that Lawson hadn’t done much in the camp until that game and that he basically just dominated one guy. Sounds like he will need to keep it up.
On ESPN insider, though, Bilas thinks Lawson will go top 20.
Chad Ford was high on Lawson as well.
Lawson is gone, and, if he continues to play well, he should go. Good for him. I would do it.
Remember that Ellington and Green still have individual team workouts, so they should not be counted out yet.
As things stand today, it looks like the keys to next season are Bobby Frasor’s rehab and whether Deon Thompson can turn into a bigtime player/complement to Tyler rather than just a bystander.
Anxious,
Yes. I think Green and Ellington are looking for one team in the 1st round to roll the dice with them. Lawson is quickly reaching a point where he might be a consensus 1st round pick and a lot of teams will want him if he is available. This is not going to be the case for the other two so they will have to get some kind of assurance from a team that they will get picked otherwise they should head back to Chapel Hill.
Well, I will congratulate Ty on a good showing. That said, is anyone else pissed off to read that he’s playing very good defense in draft camp, when he couldn’t defend a lamp post this year? To me, that indicates that college was never the right motivating factor for him.
That said, Ty, I wish you the best and I’ll root for you wherever you go in the NBA. Though, I would root even harder if you came back to Chapel Hill, proved me wrong about your defensive motivation and cut down the nets in Detroit.
By the way, I’d really like it if we could get the Final Four back somewhere along the Mississippi River since that’s where all our championship luck seems to come.
As I said, I was pretty pissed at the whole way he played and not so much at him but out of frustration that he ended up injured and the display he put on yesterday should have been what we saw versus Kansas. I did note that he was getting high marks on defense but I never really thought he was a terrible defensive player and he did shut down Tyrese Rice in the 2nd half at BC.

Dscwind: The bottom line is that Ty was playing lights out offense and defense in the month before he got hurt. He was not the same after that, and he probably just needed the rest to get back to where he was. In the end, that injury was devastating.
WB3: I don’t know that I would classify Ty’s defensive performance at any point other than against Tyrese Rice as a lights out. And yes, I know that the injury slowed him down and hurt him. And I definitely will forever hate Ryan Reid for taking away Ty’s game-breaking ability from us.
That said, even before the injury, there were times when Ty would have serious defensive lapses. He would be out of position or simply not lock down on his man in the hopes that his speed would allow him to catch up with his man if the guy tried to blow by him. Was he awful on defense? No, not by any means. But his defense was definitely suspect at times, unless someone basically challenged his abilities (like Tyrese Rice).
And now he has another hip pointer. Poor Ty.
