Not only could UNC be playing in Boston (if they do, I sooo there), but the #2 in the East could very easily be UConn. At least the ABCer’s won’t be able to complain about UNC having an unfair advantage.

Well since we are all getting way ahead of ourselves(and why wouldn’t we with this team coming back) here are all the NCAA sites for 2009 tournament:

1st/2nd Round:

March 19 and 21

Greensboro
Kansas City
Philadelphia
Portland

March 20 and 22

Boise
Dayton
Miami
Minneapolis

Regionals

March 26 and 28

East: Boston, MA
West: Glendale, AZ

March 27 and 29

Midwest: Indianapolis, IN
South: Memphis, TN

Final Four

Ford Field, Detroit, MI

So hypothetically speaking, if UNC performs up to snuff, they would ideally be the #1 seed in the East and play Greensboro then Boston. And I was surprised to see that Boston is actually a few miles closer to Chapel Hill than Memphis.

All of this is utterly theoretical at this point.

C.Michael…..I’m jealous. I have a friend who sold his tickets last year to the tourney. It drove me nuts, but I couldn’t afford to match any price he would have gotten.

ZDub,

My understanding is that UNC will play UCSB in their opening game of the season on their way to Maui. This will be the “home” game for Deon Thompson(and would have been for Alex Stepheson had he stayed)

LOOKING AHEAD TO 2008-09

UNC will play in the Maui Invitational on Nov. 24-26. Other participants in the tournament are Alabama, Indiana, Notre Dame, Oregon, Saint Joseph’s, Texas and Chaminade.

The Tar Heels will open the season playing at Cal-Santa Barbara (Nov. 21) on the way out to Maui. UNC will continue its annual series with Kentucky and will play Michigan State (Dec. 3) at Ford Field in Detroit for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Heels are also scheduled to host Arizona and play Valparaiso at the United Center in Chicago.

We also should keep in mind that Lawson was not one hundred percent last year, and if he is this year, we will see that freshman spark he had again and that alone would be enough to win the big game for us. When he is on, it is on.

Some may say, although I don’t agree with it, that it would have been best to go ahead and rid ourselves of Green/Lawson/Ellington because they were inferior in the big game and it would create a culture of losing that our freshman may adapt themselves to. I do not agree with that logic since we lost but all 3 games last year, so I think we need to reject that train of thought when we hear it.

I went ahead and booked a hotel for Detroit. $70 bucks a night for 3 nights! It’s only a 5 hour drive from my house, so I can roll up on Sat. morning for the first game.

UCONN was a preseason #1 before yesterday. Louisville will be pretty good. I live in Louisville and the fans calling into a local sports talk show were clearly dissapointed and terrified after the news came out. Barring injury, next year should be a pretty special season.
