  • I really wonder if Michigan State & Texas will be as competitive this year as to the fast few. Hopefully Kentucky will help us out this year by losing a few more games than we will (good probability). I wonder who will be the most difficult non-conference team that we will play.

JB, looks like Michigan State has some good size to throw at us, A 7’0 a 6’11 and a 6’10 plus what ever they recruited. Thank goodness Neitzel is gone, He would have been a good Heel. Not sure about Texas but would love to meet them in the Finals of the Maui and Wipe the floor with “P”rick Barnes.

It’s a good thing I do not hold grudges in Life as I do in Carolina Basketball

  • I only knew Neitzel was gone, therefore I felt a little more comfortable playing them. I did not realize they had that much size. Thank goodness we do too :) . I would have to imagine with DJ Augustine being gone as well as Durant out of the way they might not be as good also. Kentucky should be better this year by default. Can’t get much worse for them than last year. Doesn’t look like a tough schedule to me. ACC looks much improved with GT and Wake Forest getting some much needed recruits. I expect Maryland to hold tight, and for Duke & UNC to remain where they are at. I have no clue about Miami. Clemson lost a lot of players. Virginia losing their star guard, but I have no clue where to rank’em. VT? I see this all coming down to UNC/Duke yet again. Hopefully, the last game will NOT decide the ACC champion again this year. Look out for Wake. (No, not NC State located in Wake County). LOL

  • I hold some grudges myself Keith. I still haven’t gotten over Ferry’s rough play on JR. I will not forget Laettner’s attempt to destroy & humiliate Montross. I am also still mad at Chris Collins for his arrogant gestures toward Doherty (the coach). And Tyler, whoa, better look out for ME Gerald. Is it just me, or do we demonstrate ourselves in exciting dunks & fast breaks, and Duke demonstrates themselves in arrogant head wagging as they shoot free-throws or draw a foul on the 3 point line? Maybe my grudges are worse than I thought.

  • THF, I don’t want to take away anything from this thread, but (non-related) I recall you making a thread about a year or so ago relating Lebron James’s effort in a game to MJ’s. I made an argument against it because I thought he had an opportunity to seal the game with some free-throws in which he missed. But, in all honesty, I haven’t seen such spectacular play since then, and maybe he IS that guy!

  • We need some more dialouge on this matter. Do you think it is a pansy schedule THF? We could see another run at undefeated this year.

At least Chaminade will be an easy game. I mean … who could possibly lose to Chaminade?

    Josh-

I don’t see this as being a “pansy” schedule. The one problem I had with last year’s schedule was the complete absence of Big East & Big 12 opponents. The Maui Invitational will provide for at least on of those two matchups. We need to play the long, athletic teams early so that Roy & staff can guage just how much work needs to be done on the offensive end to prevent a repeat of the Kansas Debacle.
The Nevada matchup might be a preview of what the Wake game could be like in one aspect: UNC playing a team of highly-touted ’08 recruits. Michigan State and Kentucky are always matchups that jump out on paper, but I prefer the MSU and UK teams that are of top-10 calibre. I’m hoping that (presuming that UNC makes the Maui final) we see Notre Dame early on. That would be a marquee matchup that would show how the boys fare against a top-five team that can go inside-out and can defend (fairly) well.
Still, I would have liked to see a PITT, Memphis, Kansas, UCLA, or Connecticut on the schedule. I would much rather see a UNC team that is, say, 31-3 or 32-2 heading into the NCAAs with a tough schedule than a team going 34-0 and getting handed a humbling defeat by the first athletic team that comes along.
Other than our boys, Duke will be somewhere in the mix, or should I say, may be ranked in the top three until March. Pitt, UCLA, Connecticut, Notre Dame, and the young Jayhawks could also be among the top-five throughout the season. You really can’t count out Memphis, considering the fact that they will chalk up a ton of wins in their conference season.
Ahh…I seem to be rambling a bit here, must be an election year. Correction, must be a championship year for the Heels!!!

I think what I am look forward to most before the new year is Late Night. This year’s has to top any previous year. Well maybe the annually crushing of UK is a tie.

    DeanForever,

From what I hear, another UNC-UConn home-and-home series is in the works, and possibly another one with ‘Zona depending on what happens with Lute Olsen. I don’t see any situation in which we’d do any sort of series with Kansas and I doubt we’ll ever see one with UCLA.

Roy seems to prefer sticking to series that are either regional (UConn, Rutgers, Penn) or against good friends (Arizona). Personally, I’d like to see us take on more Big East teams, like maybe a home-and-home with Georgetown or, better yet, one with St. John’s so we can get some more exposure with NYC recruits in the Garden.
