Taken from Scout.com: "North Carolina senior wide receiver Brandon Tate injured his right knee in the first quarter of North Carolina's 29-24 win over Notre Dame and did not return. An examination by UNC Sports Medicine revealed a tear to his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL)."

This is a huge blow to the up and coming Tarheels. Thanks for a great season Brandon. Well miss you and wish you the best of luck!

LHN. He gives us great field position with a good number of his returns, and that is important in dealing with a new QB, even given Cam's senior status. But if he can keep throwing the ball with this degree of accuracy, it will limit our need to have Tate on the field at all times. I think we are still in a good position in spite of it, but you hate to see such a great performing senior (Tate) to have to go out with an injury such as this. Only time will tell if we can continue to keep scoring without him in the lineup. I wish we didn't have to rely so heavily on our defense to get good offensive production. You just fear the game will come where we don't cause fumbles, interceptions, and 3 & outs. How will we perform then? We haven't been there yet.

MRI results should be known today. Winston-Salem Journal is citing a source saying they fear ligament damage and Tate out for an extended period. With only six games left that really means out for the season.

Speaking of Tate; what are we hearing about the severity of his injury? Sometimes in the western part of the state we may not hear the latest or most in-depth info until well after it is made public in CH.

Tate is a special player who can change the game at any given time. That will be difficult to replace and probably won't be replaced in full by any one person.

"How much is this incoming class of 09 going to help us with the loss of good seniors such as Tate? Is this the year to try to make it happen, or is our incoming class going to negate our losses and help us become even better?"

The class of 2009 is still shaping up, but we've already got some really good players committed and could get more. We're getting a blue-chip DE in Donte Moss, and some say that LB Justin Dixon could step into the starting lineup from day one (heady stuff when you consider who we have playing LB right now...). The problem with this class is that, with a small senior class, there just aren't many scholarships available, which forces the coaching staff to be pretty choosy. Coach Davis still believes this should end up as the finest class he's had at Carolina, however.

As for replacements for Brandon Tate -- they're already on the roster. UNC has a number of young wideouts who'll get their chances next year: Rashad Mason, Todd Harrelson, Dwight Jones, just to name a few.

I don't think Davis would have taken this particular job if he did not believe he could coach UNC into being a consistent winner (i.e., top 10-15).

Wouldn't it be nice to finally become a respectable team again in this sport? Looks like we might be headed there. How much is this incoming class of 09 going to help us with the loss of good seniors such as Tate? Is this the year to try to make it happen, or is our incoming class going to negate our losses and help us become even better? Does anyone think that Davis can lead this team into the top 10 at some point? I know we are all probably asking too much out of a basketball college.
