In case you were wondering.
Tyler Hansbrough needs 35 points to pass Phil Ford on top of UNC’s all time scoring list. Ford holds the record at 2290. Hansbrough has 2256. Assuming he is back in the lineup for good, which I think will be the case, the best bet is Hansbrough snags this record against Evansville on December 18th. It is possible he gets 35 versus Oral Roberts but I doubt it since that will be a blowout and UNC’s offense tends to be more balanced in those kind of games.
Hansbrough needs 514 points to pass J.J. Redick(2769 points) as the all time leading scorer in ACC history. At present Hansbrough is averaging 22.0 ppg which means he would pass Redick during the ACC Tournament semifinals assuming the scoring averages stays the same. At 23.0 ppg he would eclipse Redick a game earlier and in order to do it on Senior Day versus Duke he would need to be averaging 24.0 ppg. My numbers might be slightly off but that is roughly where he stands. The few missed games are setback to pursuing the ACC mark. Then again, I am not sure he much cares since the national title is the goal and if the Heels get that far, the ACC mark will be easily passed.
Inside Carolina has a thread tracking Hansbrough progress.

The way the team is playing this year, I am not sure it will be necessary for Hansbrough to score 23 points every game. It would be great if he broke the record during the NCAAA tournament.
If he plays the rest of the games this season, I don’t see how he wouldn’t pass Redick even if it takes until the NCAAs. That will be an exciting moment!
Be nice if he broke Redick’s mark doing what Redick was unable to do: play clutch in the NCAA Tournament.
I think TH would be happy with the NCAA title and no points the rest of the way out. What a great young man and a fantastic representative of UNC. I wish him all the good fortune in the world and, of course, all the records he can get to keep his name in the books and jersy in the rafters.
Hans-brah for President.
The scoring may be the same, but what a sharp contrast between the two. Here you have Reddick. He complains about how everyone is after him, how much he is hated, and all the struggles he had to go through, in spite of being the big man on campus and adored by many a fan. Despite getting a multi million dollar contract in the NBA. You have Tyler Hansbrough. He talks about how much he enjoys the game, works very hard outside the court to maintain and grow his body. He doesn’t brag about every weight he lifts, or how much off the court conditioning he goes through. He doesn’t talk about how every team is after him, in spite of taking not only defenders best effort, but cheap shot fouls in order to ruff him up or to stop his over enthusiastic play. He doesn’t mention all of that. He just shows up ready to play every game, and does it with great pride, and great joy & excitement. Very deep contrast between these two guys.
Look, I hate Dook as much as the next guy. Hell, I bet I hate them MORE than the next guy, and I’m sure THF would back me up on that. And JJ is the Dook player I have hated more than all others (until Schyer showed up), but that dude never complained. He loved being hated, he always talked about thriving on it. He loved working on his game, shooting J’s in the gym and in his dirt driveway at his redneck ****** parents’ house, doing pilates or some other non-manly exercises, putting in hours upon hours of practice time. And you could see it in his game throughout his years at Dook: he developed moves to the basket, he developed a mid range jumper, hell, he dunked a few times as a senior. Point is, as much as I despise the guy, the depiction of him above is just not accurate.
Yeah, but he was still a Dookie. And that means he sucks
Hopefully Hansbrough will pass him by so that all is right in the world again. You guys should check out today’s mailbag on TarHeelBlue.com since there is a nice entry about the Hansbrough/Redick thing.
It was late and I was watching the end of a pretty good football game last night, just wanted to add that I CAN’T WAIT for the day Hans-brah passes JJ. I hope they show replays of JJ crying on the bench, or at least that one of him picking his nose on the sideline, repeatedly when TH passes him. I hope Chucky Atkins gets the trade to the magic that he wants and it pushes JJ even farther down the bench. I can’t stand him and his whiny wannabe rap/poetry crap. Little redneck greaseball. TH is better than JJ in every way, shape, and form.
SmallandPettyPat. I never said he complained about how hard he had to work. He did whine about how much he is hated in every venue he had to go to. He did whine about how every defender is after him on the court. Do you hear Hansbrough mention any of this? Not only does he get his defender’s best effort, he gets their retributive hard fouls every game too. I have yet to hear him complain about that.
No, TH never complains about anything. But JJ never complained about being hated. He loved it in fact. He said that is what fueled him.
Funny how the Duke players and coaches complain about how “hated” they are, yet they continue to let the Cameron Crazies act like disrespectful, mean-spirited, camera-hogging poseurs. Their days of cleverness have long passed them by. I can respect good athletes and successful coaches, but I despise lunatic fanbases.
The Cameron Crazies started reading their own press and it became more about what they could do as a crowd rather than actually cheering for Duke. I think Cameron is a far less imposing building to play in and the current roster of Heels agree seeing that no one on the team has ever lost there.
There is no ‘craziness’ in choreography. And that’s exactly what happens in Cameron. That is a lot different than a bunch of folks getting together and going nuts cheering on their team.
My prediction: He will break them all. Tyler is a BEAST! I want to see JJ’s face when his record gets broken!
