I applaud DeFillipo for his decision. These head coaches make way too much money for what they do. Anybody out there reading this think about how much you make for what you do, and then think what Jag was making. If you're paid big bucks, you need to abide by your employer's rules. I say, good decision, and good riddance.

I looked up "cutting off your nose to spite your face" in the dictionary and it said "see Gene DeFillipo".

I truly hope there is some backstory to this that we just don't know, or else Mean Gene just jumped into the running for Worst. AD. Ever. Heck, even Lee Fowler wouldn't do something like that! (A little jab for all the Wuffies out there)

Seriously, I feel his frustration, but does BC have a long history of coaches jumping ship of which I am unaware? TOB was there, what, 8-10 years? Al Skinner has been around for a while.

My daddy always said you have to choose your battles, and while I respect DeFillipo for making good on his threat, I think it was a battle poorly chosen. Besides, what does this say to other coaches who might have otherwise considered a pretty decent BC job and looked to stay 8-10 years? Does BC have a John Bunting in the wings, 'cause Mean Gene has just defined the conditions under which he will treat a FB coach and no decent coach in the country will agree to it.

On another ACC-related football note, and linking to the previous THF post about Minnesota's defensive improvement after Withers left for UNC, ACC Now has an post about how Minnesota's DC, who raised them statistically from near the bottom to respectability, has been hired for the same position at Auburn. And pray tell, what defensive guru raised the Gophers from the dead and is now headed to the SEC? One Ted Roof, deposed Duke coach. Doesn't that give the Withers story an extra kick in the pants?

How much you wanna bet, that Butch somehow will be linked to this job opening?

I've actually been relieved that Butch's name hasn't surfaced for one of the several NFL jobs open.
