They discuss Thompson and Davis on Goheels, and make a lot of the same points made here. Good job fellas.

52 Big Game James: Roy didn't address the defensive side of the ball re: Deon. I think the main concern is putting the ball in the basket.

Roy also made the point the sometimes kids should start for team chemistry purposes. For that reason, Roy seemed to say things will stay the same. As for who finishes games though, we can be sure it will be the player giving him the best chance of winning.

I initially worried about fouls too, but their rates are pretty similar. Deon is averaging 1 foul per 11.5 minutes, and Ed is at 1 per every 10.5, so over 30 minutes, neither would be in serious jeopardy, on average.

no wonder-that probably would be the best way & likely what we'll see--foul trouble would be a potential issue for Davis were he starting. good point wb3, but it still doesn't address what Jackie referenced to guard penetration.

On the call-in show last night, Roy said he wanted Thompson hitting the weak-side boards when Tyler puts up his shots. He should be free if the opponent doubles Tyler. It will be interesting to see if Thompson starts getting those put-backs.

You have to wonder if the best way to do that is by just adjusting the minutes played by each. Less jarring than switching starters, but accomplishes the same thing.

There is a big difference between making the switch before the season starts and doing so midway through. I'm not saying doing it now is off the table, but it is not really the same as the Paulus situation.

This may sound overly simplistic, but if Roy thinks Deon should be starting, then IMO, Deon should be starting. I have to assume that he has a lot more first hand knowledge of all of the factors (experience, chemistry, injury, performance in game and practice...) than I do.

Happy Snow Day Carolina's!

Agreed Jackie-the main argument for starting Ed is for getting out of the gate quicker, and stepping on the neck. If Duke can sit Paulus, in favor of more defensive efficiency, I don't see why it's such a big deal (or blow to Deon's ego) to make a similar move.

I must admit that after the Panther's (Jake's) season, I am fatigued with the "hope" thingy. The similarities are just too striking to ignore.
