Via ACC Now:
The final tally:
In the draft
G Jeff Teague, Wake Forest
F James Johnson, Wake Forest
G Gerald Henderson, Duke
G Wayne Ellington, UNC
G Ty Lawson, UNC
F Brandon Costner, N.C. StateOut
G Greivis Vasquez, Maryland
F Gani Lawal, Georgia Tech
F Dwayne Collins, Miami
F Al-Farouq Aminu, Wake Forest
As J.P. Giglio rightly points out, Wake Forest is the one who gets completely screwed here though they did hang on to Al-Farouq Aminu. I am of the opinion losing James Johnson hurts more than losing Jeff Teague. Yes, losing both of them is going to knock the Deacs down a few pegs but had they at least held onto Johnson they may have done better on chemistry alone. Teague struck me as a head case and given to on-court pouting as observed by C.Michael during the ACC Tournament loss to Maryland.
Georgia Tech gets Gani Lawal back which means Paul Hewitt has a boatload of talent and not a clue what to do with it.
Oh. Joy. We get another season of Greivis Vasquez and his on-court antics. At least Marcus Ginyard will be back to shut his scrawny rear end down when UNC meets Maryland in 09-10.

agreed on the Johnson loss THF–he could be the pick of this draft imo.
Ewwwwww! Vasquez again? Let’s hope Marcus is back to form.
Vasquez has a big mouth, but you can’t take away from him the game he played against us. I’m against showboating and other forms of self-display, but if one is into that sort of thing, he earned the right to it.
I also wonder whether we’re expecting too much from Ginyard. His injury turned out to be more intractable than anyone thought at first. Frasor never did make it all the way back from his. Let’s hope Ginyard fares better.
uncgirl — Are you and Tyler getting hitched in Chapel Hill, or have you selected somewhere else? When’s the big date?
Excuse me but I failed to see the name “Hansbrough” in the listing of those who werer in the draft.
rath, I really want a spring wedding, in a garden, with lots of pink roses. So sometime next April or May?
Courtney Fells (NCSU) is getting a lot of interest, too. He’s apparently healthy from the bad ankle from last season, and impressing scouts. His game would translate better to the NBA than the ACC, I think.
[...] and forward Jame Johnson, and while I am not sure if I totally agree with fellow UNC blogger, Tar Heel Fan, about Johnson being a biggest lost for head coach Dino Gaudio, however, I do agree with him that [...]
No doubt the loss of Johnson at Wake is bigger than losing Teague. I think in Wake’s first loss to VT(?) Teague was obviously pouting and passing up the open jumpers he hit against the Heels.
The loss of Costner is a plus for State IMHO.
GT will be very interesting. Shumpert at PG is talented as well.
Courtney Fells will be interesting to follow. He had the ability to look like Koby Bryant at times and then he’d disappear. He like most of Sidney Lowe’s team, played very little defense (which might bode well for him in the NBA)
thewizard50,
The list is just underclassmen.

I pretty much agree with this. The breakdown is much more balanced than last year, which should make for a much more competitive season:
B10: 6
BE: 5
ACC: 3
B12: 3
SEC: 3
P10: 2
On paper, the Big 10 may actually be favored to win the ACC/B10 challenge. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Looks like UNC will have two Top-5 match-ups in December with Texas and MSU.
You know, the less Ginyard plays, the better player he becomes. If he were to sit out next year, he might be the best defensive player since Bill Russell.
Didn’t he play against Kansas in the first half of that game back in 2008?
Ginyard is good but he was basically this year’s team’s excuse if they didn’t win the title after everyone said they should. Now all of a sudden, he has a reputation as a defensive stopper that exceeds any UNC player in history? Goodness, if Bobby Frasor couldn’t stop Vasquez in College Park, I doubt Marcus can either.
William, I understand your point, but Marcus is a better player than Bobby. Marcus was a fantastic defensive player before he was injured and I think everyone is just assuming he’s going to be the same player as he was before he was injured. Of course this could be a Bobby Frasor type scenario and he could come back a significantly worse player. But we should just hope for the best, should we not?
UTAH JAZZ COACH ON HANSBROUGH:
“Guys that are willing to work always get better. That’s a huge thing in this business,” Sloan said. “That’s what you look for because it gives your team a chance to be competitive. Guys that really want to play and want to make themselves better can do that through hard work.”
Isn’t that the truth!
This is off topic, I know, but I never realized how much time basketball took up in my life. Most of that time is now taken up by spending as much time as possible with my friends and family before I leave for college. But boy is my family boring. All my sister can talk about is how Miley Cyrus got her nose pierced. And they call me boring!
Claire, please, please educate your sister on quality music! Miley Cyrus and her Disney friends (Jo Bros, I’m talking about you!) are horrible. Blech.
I try, I try, but does she listen to me? Nooooo.
At least you try.
