What: College World Series Elimination Game
Where: Rosenblatt Stadium, Omaha, NE
When: Thursday, June 18th, 7:00 PM
TV: ESPN2
The Heels will send Matt Harvey out and all their hopes against Arizona St in hopes of avenging the Sunday loss and sending the Sun Devils home all at the same time. No word as of yet on who ASU will send to the mound. UNC could see Josh Spence on three days rest and if that is the case one would hope he would not be nearly as effective as he was in shutting down the Tar Heel offense on Sunday. Should the Heels win they would need to beat #1 seeded Texas twice to reach the best of three national championship series.
First pitch is at 7 PM.
GO HEELS!

I think ASU is sending “Nuke” to the mound tonight…may he announce his presence with authority.
Ebby Calvin LaLoosh: God, that sucker teed off on that like he knew I was gonna throw a fastball!
Crash Davis: He did know.
Ebby Calvin LaLoosh: How?
Crash Davis: I told him.
genius.
up 4-0, i’m going to keep walking guys, hitting guys, throwing the ball to the backstop, because i dont want one guy to hit a 4-run HR by himself.
congrats, you loaded em up and Mor(LESS)an delivers as i knew he would after being up 1-2 on Calhoun.
havent these guys watched baseball all their lives? havent they heard a million times that one guy can’t hit a 4-run HR? unbelievable.
can you tell i’m seriously pissed?
HTTE, I nearly threw my phone AND my laptop after that bit of baseball. Why did you leave Harvey on so long?
I have a question. As I’m listening to the Tar Heel Blue broadcast, they keep commenting on the beach balls that keep finding their way on to the field. Do the park officials just not care? How many times does it take to get them to take the dang things away? Eventually one’s going to be on the field while the outfielders are trying to make a play. I don’t want anyone getting hurt because of a stupid beach ball.
Buffalo Bills
The pitching tonight has been ridiculous. And finally we have an out. I’m ready to scream.
What a disaster. I need a lift. Will someone please tell me that Larry Drew is averaging 18 ppg and 8 apg in whatever summer league he’s in?
Thanks!
Just imagine it to be , and it shall be so.
10 years ago I would’ve cared less about the CWS…so big thanks to Mike Fox and some of the incredible talent his staff brings in to even reach that stage. It is especially enjoyable that a high %% of that talent is home-grown, North Carolina talent too.
HTTE,
Let me guess, you also have 20/20 hindsight. Backseat coaching is easy. Perhaps Coach Fox knows a little bit more about his team and baseball than you do.
52,
It’s not the same. Two teams play in the Super Bowl; eight teams go to Omaha. Also, baseball is perhaps the best example of a sport where good teams lose and bad teams win on a regular basis—not that I’m implying ASU or UNC are bad teams.
Congratulations to Coach Fox and the 2009 Diamond ‘Heels on another terrific season! I suspect ‘Heels fans will miss losing in Omaha for the next few seasons, but I hope I’m wrong.
how is knowing the score and situation HINDSIGHT, exactly?
the same thing started to happen with Warren vs So Miss and he was up EIGHT nothin.
Hindsight? i’m talking about when youre on the mound. even Ventura and Philips talked about it tuesday. hitting the glove and not the backstop has nothin to do with Fox. did i single Fox out? i did not. did i even imply anything about the staff? i did not.
i was/am pissed and frustrated at how when youre in the dugout, you arent saying, ok, i’m up 4-0, or 8-0, i dont need to nibble at the plate for the leadoff guy. if i’m not mistaken, thats how baseball guys tell it.
i think its a HUGE accomplishment getting to Omaha and never once thought they needed to win for validation. baseball IS a lot of luck. just ask the Mets, up 1 with 2 out in the 9th and an infield pop fly about to land in your mitt, only to drop it and lose.
this team will be back to Omaha before long, not to worry about that.
HTTE: I think this sums it up nicely:

it does. tho i think the Heels were VERY close to knocking Spence out in the 4th. a shame Ackley had the dubious strike 1, followed by the check swing foul on a high pitch.
and, of course, in the 2nd, who knows what mightve happened with the extra out the Heels shouldve had since Stallings was CLEARLY safe on his 1st squeeze RBI. 2nd baseman covering 1st was a NY City phonebook off the bag, jumping to collect throw.
and i just now read ASU lost last night on 2 9th inning homers. i bet the Heels couldve beaten Texas.
