Blue And Womble Have Surgery

First of all, you hate it for both of these guys who are getting plenty of experience as freshman.  As you look forward(and that is about what we are left to do here) next season UNC should improve offensively on the strength of players like Jamal Womble and A.J. Blue getting experience now.  Womble fractured his wrist which probably will not be a huge deal long team.  Blue, on the other hand, injured his knee which creates all sorts of concern for his future.  Hopefully neither will be an issue down the road. Both are scheduled for surgery on Tuesday with an update on their status due some time after that.

In terms of the big picture: The hits keep coming don’t they?  Sheesh. How many injuries can this offense possibly take.  Granted Womble and Blue were only playing in spots but when you are 115th in total offense out of 120 teams it is an all hands on deck situation.

THF, As far as your last paragraph is concerned where there is smoke there is fire. Im looking at you Coach Connors.

I was hoping to see Shoop try to do more with Blue (other than the most predictable play in the ACC, of course). Guess that won’t happen now.

I was at the stadium trying to kill myself running stairs today and the team is running some form of practice with another team. The team is Orange, Black and White? Campbell Camels? Not too sure but it was interesting, not the whole team but more than half are participating. They had split the field and had offense on one side and defense on the other. Officials and everything.

  • I hear Lowell Dyer is done for the year too. I’d say it’s time for a new S&C coach and medical trainer.

^ I’m not so sure the injuries to Blue and Womble have anything to do with the conditioning. Womble broke his wrist on a kickoff, I was at the game but didn’t notice any problem with him. He certainly wasn’t carted off the field. Freak accident?

Blue hurt his knee after a tremendous run. He was tackled by 2 defenders and as I remember another guy fell on the “pile” and you could see Blue’s legs get twisted. We all were hoping he’d get right up, but our worst fear were realized.

Both Womble and Blue have looked good against D-II teams. Blue would have been the first to replace Draughn (in my opinion) if he get’s injured. We have no replacement for Ryan Houston unless Butch moves Elzy back to TB.

  • I’ll grant that Womble’s injury was, indeed, a freak accident, but knee injuries can be mitigated if you properly build up your quads.

Honestly, my comment mainly referred to some of the previous incidents such as Lowell Dyer.
