#6 UNC vs Valparaiso

Where: Dean Smith Center, Chapel Hill, NC
When: Sunday, November 15th, 4:00 PM
TV: Fox Sports South
Records: UNC 2-0, Valpo 0-1

This game stands to be a little stiffer test than the ones offered by FIU and NCCU. Maybe like taking the practice SAT. Valpo is generally a well coached team and has some players who are capable of doing some nice things(as Roy would say…I think I have been listening to him too much.) If the past two seasons are an indication, UNC can expect Valpo to give them a run for things, especially in the first half. If the turnovers are still an issue, matters could be even tighter.

I expect this game will see Roy Williams continue to rotate players at will to give the freshman plenty of experience. At some point I would expect to see the rotation tighten up and the way this game unfolds might dictate that a little more. If it is a tight game, Roy could opt to cut back on playing time for Leslie McDonald, one or both of the Wear Twins and even Will Graves. It is obvious John Henson is still adjusting to the perimeter position so I would not be surprised to see him get more minutes to help him make that adjustment.

The turnovers will continue to be a focus. From an offensive standpoint the Heels looked very good against NCCU getting a balanced attack but needing some awareness on where the three point line is at since they ended hitting a lot of long two pointers. If UNC can bring that same sort of offensive efficiency today but cut down on the turnovers, it will bolster their confidence heading to New York.

UNC 85 Valpo 60

  • Valpo’s starts 4 guards and a 6’7 SF. Should be an interesting matchup.

On a different note, apparently Brandon Jenning’s made the correct diecision to go overseas last year. First rookie to score 50+ since AI and tied the NBA record for points in a quarter with 29!! Kid is scary good…

    55?! holy crap.

Tyler didnt put up much yesterday vs. Boston. and when did Admiral Akbar (She-Will) become a Celtic? thats disappointing. now who do i root for if they play the Lakers?

  • It’s even more impressive considering he had ZERO points in the 1st quarter…

“a little stiffer test than…NCCU” I should hope so. Central was dead last (or at least they were when State clobbered them late in the season) in the NCAA’s entire field of Division I basketball teams last year. The test couldn’t be easier, and it couldn’t even be equal if they really were last.

Should be an interesting match up. I think the Heels have to much inside power. I also think our three point shooting thus far has been nice.

Hope we have a good showing before heading o NYC for some big games

I think that Henson will show up. He needs to take the smaller guards to the hole…even post up a litte or go over top for lobs. Roy needs to cut the kid loose, build some confidence before the NYC trip.

As of right now, I beleive that Henson is playing like a kid who wants to develop within this system. He knows he’ll get the exposure, develop his NBA-ready resume, and that he’ll be part of winning teams…so maybe he’s just letting the game come to him. I don’t know that he’s such a one-and-done player, and I really don’t think that he’s in a rush to get out of Chapel Hill. Then again, he could start to score like Brandan Wright did in 2007 (after the first batch of games), and the NBA talk gets to be so loud that he can’t ignore it.

Can you imagine what would happen if both he and Ed Davis BOTH came back next year?

anywhere online i can watch this?no fox sports south in va.

  • “Can you imagine what would happen if both he and Ed Davis BOTH came back next year?”

On paper, it would be the best CBK team since the 1984 Tar Heels. That team had 9 McD All-Americans; next year’s team would have 10.

I’d check justin.tv. I can’t find anything yet, but will check closer to game time.

I thought the PSAT was easy-peasy lemon-squeezy. Hopefully this game will be the same.

if i can just take a minute to whine.
why does CBS think anyone in NC, even Redskins fans, would rather see the Redskins, than a competitive game with meaning?
    so annoying.

  • TexasFan11

I felt the PSAT was extremely easy, the SAT as well.

HttE, you gotta remember that CBS stands for Can’t Broadcast S**t.

Personally, I wish that CBS wouldn’t broadcast basketball games at all until they actually put a freaking shot clock on the little bottom bar.
