I stayed up late Friday night just to watch this game. It was worth it. I thought Denver would be bad for Ty simply because Karl can’t stand playing rookies. I guess the UNX connection and Ty’s amazingly dope ****** skillz have changed his mind. Dude is playing as well as Billups and will supplant him sooner or later.
Ty may supplant the 10 year vet Billups someday but he has the opportunity to learn so much from Billups before that day.
Karl does not like the rep of “not playing rookies” and he challenges anyone to point to a rookie that he should have played more. I’m not a big fan of Karl but I give him the benefit of the doubt here.
That dunk was awesome and it surprised many. What surprises me is just how many so called experts, like ex-dookie Hubie Brooks, are ‘surprised’ by Ty’s play. Yo, he has been doing this for 3+ years and he has a ring! Ty has mentioned the draft day ‘disrespect’ and he seems to feed off of it … just like MJ. I like that.
BTW, what you do not see in that clip is that Ty’s next layup, about 1 minute later, was swatted away. Welcome to the league rookie and keep on dunking.
“he challenges anyone to point to a rookie that he should have played more”
Well, no matter who we point to Karl will say “well, you didn’t see what I saw. He wasn’t as ready as you think”. However, I seem to remember that a lot of folks close to the team thought that Julius Hodge should have seen more PT. Until he got shot.
You’re probably right about Karl but I do not recall anyone expressing those sentiments about Julius. He averaged about 2.5 minutes per game on a team that won their division. In January of his second season, he was traded for Steve Blake and the Nuggets suddenly became an exciting team to watch. One month after the trade, the last place Bucks released Hodge so I find it hard to believe that he should have gotten more PT here in Denver.
I think that this is one post too many about non-Tar Heel ex-ACC players……….
^You left out the whole getting shot thing. That did derail his career a little. But you’re right, enough about him. He is my least favorite Pack player of all time. And my most favorite (because he said and did the dumbest $hit in that NXSU jersey and it just made the school look foolish to have him as a representative).
SaPPat, you’re right, Hodge was still a Nugget when he got shot… April of his rookie season. Night clubs in Denver are not a good place to hang out if you are an athlete.
William, a lot of people around Denver are talking about Ty … but that Jennings kid may be establishing a new path to the NBA.
Larry Brown made another trade yesterday. I don’t know how many more he is going to make, but somebody correct me if there were not several players far better than Gerald Henderson available in last year’s draft. I think the Bobcats may be worse now than they were before he dealt his center last spring.
Not taking Lawson or Hansbrough because Sean May and McCants may have underperformed doesn’t make sense to me, nor does it make sense to me to avoid picking someone because of his position or school. I think Brown and Jordan may now be spooked about drafting UNC guys, which is just about as ridiculous as their draft pick of Henderthug, who is only likely to draft road fans as opposed to people from the state of North Carolina.
I think I said that Lawson reminded me of a taller Bogues and right now he seems to be proving it, because Bogues was a quality longtime NBA star.
Yep … Minnesota traded the wrong player. But I love it – Nuggets/George Karl are a great fit for Lawson. Not drafted until #18? Ridiculous…

I am surprised no one is talking about Lawson. How is Gerald Henderson doing?
[...] thanks to the UNC blog, Tar Heel Fan, here is the video of Ty Lawson dunking on D.J. [...]
