I don't understand the snarkiness about Seth Davis. I know he picked MSU to upset us last year, but so what? He wasn't the only one.

Go back and watch the 2005 MSU and you will see Seth Davis telling Clark Kellogg, someone much more worth of your opprobium, that MSU was in big trouble in that game. He did this at half time and MSU was ahead by five. Davis basically told Kellogg that MSU had no chance to win the game because they were trying to run with UNC. Kellogg said MSU needed to keep running with UNC, and we all saw what happened there.

There is absolutely no doubt that Hansbrough was the heart of the NCAA winning team of last year. His toughness and determination was easy for anyone to see. But this year, his absence from the middle of the court is obvious as well.

His all-around excellence certainly put him in a unique place. His numbers are amazing. But what was especially impressive last year turned on his ability to step back and offer whatever was needed for the team to win, come what may. He was genuinely pleased for Lawson, Ellington, Green and everyone else to succeed.

He just wanted to win. Sincerely. And do whatever he could to make himself better. That is really class.

Nice read, especially from someone with dark blue blinders on. Everything he wrote is true of course and any Hansbrough hater would have to agree. There's not a one of them that wouldn't take Tyler on their team in a heartbeat. We were lucky to have this young man in Carolina blue, luckier still to get to have him for four years.

It will be a long time before we see another player come close to doing the things he did.

Good couple of posts, CM. Hans has been great but my vote goes to Bolt as well.

In terms of LD2, I think I've generally been happily surprised with the play of the returnees SO FAR (LD2, Marcus, Deon, Zeller, not so much Ed yet) but slightly disappointed with the freshmen. Now, I'm fully hopeful that these young guys will improve mightily as the season progresses but so far, I think I just drank a little too much of the hype koolaid.

"Just one mind you."

Or maybe two! Here is what he writes in his annual list of sophomores poised for a breakout season:

Larry Drew, 6-1 point guard, North Carolina
Fr: 9.6 mpg, 1.4 ppg, 1.9 apg, 23.1 3-pt FG%
Soph: 24.2 mpg, 7.0 ppg, 6.2 apg, 42.9 3-pt FG%

Skinny: This is a classic case of preparation meeting opportunity. With Ty Lawson running the point last year, no backup, especially a freshman, was going to get a lot of minutes. Even when Drew was in the games, he looked shaky, but it was hard to tell whether that was because he couldn't get into a rhythm or he wasn't that good. Now it looks like it was the former. Drew has proved he can run North Carolina's offense with efficiency and effectiveness, which is not easy to do with so many newcomers running alongside him. His assist-to-turnover ratio is nearly 2-to-1, and his improved field goal percentage reflects his confidence knowing the starting job is his.

Nice read. Layden's article on Usain Bolt is also a terrific read. He'd get my vote for Sportsman of the Year.
