Play of the Decade

Like the play of the year there are plenty to choose from, some of which I included in the Play of the Year post. For UNC, this decade had a tumultuous first half followed by much success in the 2nd especially for basketball but also with football getting some footing here at the end of [...]

Play of the Year

Granted a year that includes a national title in basketball and the football team beating two ranked opponents there choices are plenty. In the NCAA Tournament you had three or four in the game versus LSU alone.  One was this layup by Ty Lawson with the Heels protecting a one point lead, the other was [...]

UNC 87 Albany 70

Here is the basic summary:

First half: A little sloppy and inconsistent, still lead by 17

First 12 minutes of 2nd half: UNC basketball at its finest, lead grows to 38

Final eight minutes: Heels go to sleep and give up a 23-2 run to close the game.

Not much else I can add there. [...]

#9 UNC vs Albany

Where: Dean Smith Center When: Wednesday, December 30th, 7:00 PM TV: ESPNU Livestats: SCACC Hoops Records: UNC 10-3; Albany 4-9

Since Albany is going to be outmatched in every way and Roy Williams decided to put the team through two practices on Tuesday you can certainly bet this game is about the Heels playing better. [...]

What Roy Is Looking For

We have spent over 24 hours parsing Roy Williams’ postgame comments after UNC defeated Rutgers as well as the player performances in that game. Roy’s displeasure with the team was expressed in full today with two practices on the day between games which sounds pretty rough until I heard that Kentucky had seven practices in [...]

Yeah, That’s Going To Hurt

And you can bet one of those practices probably did not involve rims.

UNC 81 Rutgers 67

I think Deon Thompson summed it up best on Twitter:

Why does it feel like we lost, even when we won? Lucky there is still time to improve before ACC play begins.

Yeah and Roy Williams had one of those press conferences which last about five minutes chock full of cutting reporters questions off and [...]

#10 UNC vs Rutgers

Where: Dean Smith Center, Chapel Hill, NC When: Monday, December 28th, 8:30 PM TV: ESPN2 Records: UNC 9-3; Rutgers 9-2

Rutgers should not be taken lightly though I am trying to find a good reason why on their schedule.  Rutgers does not have any wins that jump out and say “hey look at us, we [...]

ACC Now On Yates

Joe Giglio offers some interesting and I would note spot-on analysis of T.J. Yates and the future of the UNC QB position:

Given the loyalty Davis and offensive coordinator John Shoop have shown to quarterback T.J. Yates — choosing him over Cam Sexton in 2007 and again at the end of 2008 — it’s hardly [...]

Pitt 19 UNC 17

Sigh.

Take your pick of the boneheaded mistakes in this one. It is fairly amazing that this team has found ways to make the worst mistakes it could possibly make at the most inconvenient time. T.J. Yates interceptions on the opponent’s goal line. Getting the exact same penalty called two straight plays. Passes hitting receivers [...]
