Of course Kendric Burney, for his part, understands they sort of did this to themselves:

“We can’t point the finger and say we should be in a better bowl,” Burney said. “We did that to ourselves.”
Other tidbits from the media availability:
- It is possible Shaughn Draughn and Jamal Womble will be available for the bowl game. Butch Davis has told them to get into a “football mentality.” I would be very surprised if Draughan played given the nature of his injury which was a fractured shoulder blade.
- Butch Davis has met with the juniors who might to jump to the NFL to explain how the process works and to make sure they understand the pertinent NCAA rules.
- Marvin Austin, who is rated the #3 junior defensive tackle by draft guru Mel Kiper, is a likely 1st round pick. Austin says he has no idea what he is doing and for the love of Dick Crum stop asking him!
- Butch Davis says he has no idea if he will lose anyone but does have a “pretty good feeling” about what they are going to do. Go ahead and parse that seeming contradiction if you’d like.
- And yes, Marvin Austin did say this about the Gator Bowl picking FSU: “I was like freakin’ Bobby Bowden, what the freak?” What the freak, indeed.

Yeah… I said the same thing when the old man outcoached our defensive coordinator in the 2nd half of our game against them this year… Kendric Burney had it right. We had our chances to earn a better bowl but we didn’t take advantage of them.
I hope that all of the Heels understand that they did this to themselves, and that they should currently be sitting at 10-2 instead of 8-4. Bobby Bowden wouldn’t be in a bowl game at all, and we’d be in Atlanta or Jacksonville over the holidays. Hopefully this will be motivation to dismantle Pitt.

A welcome recognition of what this bowl actually stands for, namely, not much.
Some writer on Fox Sports has this ranked as the 22nd best bowl. Carolina and Carolina fans should expect better. And I must disagree with HeelYeah. We should not be 10-2. We should be 11-1. Georgia Tech was the only team we lost to that was actually better than we are.
Soccer: Crap. Yes I actuall watched. Lost to Akron on penalty kicks. Quite a battle.
Well, I was referring to games where we actually had a chance to win. Sure, we SHOULD have beaten UVA, but 16-3 was not a close game. The FSU and State games were games that we gave away, whereas we were beaten by UVA.
