UNC has been posting these on Twitter.

The player on the far left is Travis Stephenson. He was a walk-on. He and I attended the same church. When Billy Packer saw this cover he openly questioned why Dean Smith would put Scott Cherry in such a crucial position on the media guide.

This is from the 1975 season. Holy crap Dean and I thought some of Roy’s ties were bad.

Outstanding hosiery back in 1975. Home and away socks customized with players numbers.
Call me crazy but Henrik Rodl could pass for a distant cousin of pro golfer Ernie Els.
That is certainly a killer sport-coat…wonder if bell-bottoms went with it. Oh, the horrors of family pictures…older brothers in either stripes or plaid with the butterfly collars.
The only thing I remember about Travis Stephenson was a three pointer he buried against Duke when he got to start on Senior Game. It was one of the most beautiful three pointers I have ever seen
(The three pointer was actually in the final minutes of the game after he was sent back in to play some more. It capped off a thorough drubbing, from start to finish, of Duke, and the crowd went wild)
behind the tuba player, is that Bill Hader from SNL, or a young Nosferatu?
and is Walter Davis rockin the first Converse’s not white or black, as Art Chansky notes in his new book?
meanwhile…from The Fan site:
State loss still stings motivated Tar Heels
and
“Losing to N.C. State, and losing to all the worst teams when they were the worst teams, it’s tough. It’s definitely on my mind right now,” defensive tackle Marvin Austin said.
“I feel very motivated,” quarterback T.J. Yates said. After the State loss, Yates said, the whole team was upset.
Oh, dont be saying that now. Hmph!
“When Billy Packer saw this cover he openly questioned why Dean Smith would put Scott Cherry in such a crucial position on the media guide.”
^^ very nice!
How about this one? http://twitpic.com/s3nog
Briarcliff, you’ve taken me back to my youth. Billy Cunningham and Bobby Lewis were heroes of mine. The reason for the Outer Space theme was that they were both leapers. Cunningham was called the Kangaroo Kid and Lewis could probably jump even higher. For that reason I became a pretty good jumper, even at 5-8. My game was definitely influenced by these two.
Cunningham had just graduated when I arrived at Chapel Hill but I was lucky enough to watch Lewis for two seasons.
I gives me chill bumps to see their picture.
By the way, I attended the old North-South Doubleheader in ’63 at the old Charlotte Coliseum. Larry Brown was a senior and Cunningham was a sophomore. After the game my high school buddies and I went down to the dressing room (you could do that back then) and got autographs from both of them.
