Paige-Moss Suspended For Bowl; UNC Loses Two Recruits

And ABCers would have you believe UNC is turning into The U North. Via Winston-Salem Journal:

Donte Paige-Moss, a reserve defensive lineman for North Carolina, has been suspended by Coach Butch Davis for an incident after a game at N.C. State and will not play in the Meineke Car Care Bowl. Paige-Moss, a freshman end from Jacksonville, got into a skirmish with an N.C. State player after the game, which N.C. State won 28-27 on Nov. 28 in Raleigh.

“He made a very, very unwise action, just pushing a guy away who was taunting him in his face,” Davis said. “We had a private conversation and talked about it.

“As I told him, it’s something that you’ve got to have composure. It’s frustrating and it’s disappointing to lose a ballgame, but you can’t lose your cool and you can’t lose your composure.”

There were many “unwise actions” in that game, so many I lost count.  Apparently NCSU fans were up in arms over some things Greg Little did and did not care for comments Marvin Austin made after the game. According to the account Davis gives, Paige-Moss was provoked by an NCSU player taunting him. The local media should call up Tom O’Brien and ask if that player will also be suspended for their bowl game. Oh wait–never mind. Where Paige-Moss is concerned, this might be about more than just one incident after the game.  Remember, Paige-Moss was also charged with simple assault before the season started. This could be considered his 2nd offense in Davis’ eyes so he ramped up the penalties to make a point.

On the recruiting front, UNC had two Hargrave recruits barred from admission and therefore will not be a part of the 2010 recruiting class. Offensive linema Johnnie Farms was expelled from Hargrave for a violation of school rules.  As a result he will not be admitted to UNC. Given UNC’s issues on the offensive line, losing a highly rated lineman like Farms hurts but if he showed himself to be a problem in prep school than the choice is fairly easy. Running back Jerrell Rhodes was also denied admission at UNC dues to “conduct violations” at Hargrave. Rhodes was ranked #89 at his position and a three star recruit.

I hate to see kids with some much potential and opportunity to screw up that opportunity, probably for something very innane.

As a fan, I do hate to see talented players not enroll who play positions where the Heels need to be developing depth.

As for the Butch and the “U North” clearly Butch is running a much tighter ship than our rivals (both had to hang up the cleats in NOV) would admit. Of course, their spin is that Davis recruits thugs just waiting to screw up.

Rhodes wasn’t that good. Coached against his Jordan team last year and felt that he was quite overrated.

This is one of my favorite ACC stories – thugs, Da U & BMFD. Super – oh wait he was the guy that came in after the violations? Really? And he lost 31 scholarships? And he got the shaft and didn’t get to play in the National Championship after he beat FSU head-to-head and was ranked higher than FSU but yet they got to play Oklahoma for the championship?

Just check his Miami coaching history out, it’s a miracle he can remain calm when discussing the BCS. I can see why he left for the NFL – thank you NCAA.

I do fear the music associated with Da U – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOQFs5qqWG4

Let’s hope Paige-Moss learns his lesson. Looks like he’s down to his last strike.

I seem to recall a lot more recruiting hype about this time las year… Dies anyone have any news or any names we need to be on the look out for?

    Thanks.

The N&O reports coach tom is not too happy with Coach Davis.

“Our players know what is expected of them and know how to conduct themselves, win or lose,” O’Brien said. “After carefully reviewing this incident, I can say that in no way, shape or form did I see any of our players exhibit inappropriate behavior.”

He didn’t look too hard, and without sound how does he know what was said?

  • Is there video? If so I would like to see it. Otherwise if him looking into amounted to asking a player if it happened then excuse me I will be over here laughing.

Yes, front page of the N&O. Either Donte just randomly decided to shove/punch number 7 or something was said.

Of course, TOB would NEVER lie, cheat or steal. He is holy, just like Tiger.

It’s football, things are always said, especially after that game things were said. There will be film and it will be inconclusive other than seeing Paige-Moss taking a swing.

I think my favorite post of the year is tied to SFN and Little who taunted a State player after he owned him on the field. Now the taunting happened right after the play, quickly and then he moved off. Turned out the kid was hurt thusly “Little taunts hurt player – what will Davis do?”. The clip is pretty amazing actually the guy just gets pancaked and the announcer says as much, too bad he got hurt, I don’t see Little trying to hurt him. I know the State players are like choir boys out there and that’s what is important. Cheaters never win friends.

TOB can chat it up, everyone look at me – I know I’m not going to a bowl and had a crappy record but look at me.
