Originally this was supposed to be a live blog but a friend came through with tickets at the last minute so I am heading to the game instead. Yeah, I know, it is a tough sacrifice but someone has to make it.
Anyway, I will be posting updates to Twitter when I get the chance. So watch that and comments here if you have them.
GO HEELS!

I’m cool with not live blogging. Have fun THF, I would do the same thing if I was in your shoes. Cheer extra loud for me, and if you could scream “Claire loves you!” at the Wear twins, I would appreciate it!
And if anyone can get video of THF yelling, “Claire loves you!” at the Wear twins, we would ALL appreciate it!
I will be lower level but I just cannot oblige.
WFU and Purdue are currently setting offensive basketball back 1000 years…
ACC teams are collectively setting the league back 50 years right now. The only team that’s winning is the one we didn’t think had a chance (Wake); the other two, State and Maryland, both look T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E.
I just hope THF is in his seat early. Sounded like Roy wanted to sell seats that were empty at the tip during the last game. I imagine folks will get there on time for this one.
The ACC is going down the drain in the Challenge this year. We may soon be 0-4 pending the outcome of the Maryland game.
NCSU beat by Northwestern, Purdue downs WFU, Virgina already lost to Penn State. ACC 0-3 in ACC – Big Ten Challenge.
Found Woody Durham online in case you’re wanting to avoid Vitale:

So why is Ed facing off for the opening tip this year? It was Deon last season, is there some complicated basketball reason I am unaware of?
Bigs are looking GREAT so far!
uncgirl it is complicated. Ed’s tall.
This is definitely the best they’ve looked to start a game so far this year.
Dude, so Ed is taller than Deon? That makes sense.
Loving our intensity so far!
I’m seeing visions of last year. It’s a beautiful thing.
Happy with the start so far, but man, our rotation (or lack thereof) on D has been pretty ugly so far this year.
MSU going small with their lineup can lead to big trouble for us.
Deon needs to get back in.
But Larry is looking pretty good.
Zeller isn’t looking good so far.
Zeller’s post game not exactly looking refined this evening…
Can Izzo stop play and tell the refs there is a problem?
And that ball TOTALLY hit the rim.
Henson is amazingly quick, but what is his offensive game?
I vote to reduce replay in college hoops, this is dullsville–save it for the last 5 of games, at least…
LARRY!!!!!!
His offensive game is to eat biscuits. He should be better with more weight.
no, THERE is is, bay-bee!
Henson has looked worlds better in these last two games.
The freshmen as group look worlds better. I think the extra practice time has been big for them.
Twins with back-to-back baskets, Dex with a three, IT’S FRESHAMN NIGHT BABY!
I have taken to calling the twins Davie and Travie.
Strickland is also extremely quick.
How is that a foul on Travis?
UNC freshman REPRESENT!!
“Strickland is also extremely quick.”
Watching a #5 for UNC zoom the ball up the court just feels right, doesn’t it?
I heard “Green with the rebound” and I thought it was Danny. That really makes me miss him.
LOVING OUR PLAY! Look at those boys run!
CM: Yes, yes it does.
That last 3 by Dexter was a “heat check”- just to see how “en fuego” he really is. DFG was known to do “heat check’s” often last year.
oooh, Ed gets the coveted “PTPer” designation!
replay makes that look like an obvious charge…
Some of these calls are blowing my mind!
Watts cannot pass in traffic.
I hope John is okay. Looks like the inside of his bottom lip is bleeding.
Nick: It was a charge. That was a bad call.
i think i just saw THF on-screen, if my lip-reading is right, who else would be yelling Claire loves you?
best half of the season? gotta be!
World, meet Dexter Strickland!
Strickland! Nice half #5
What a half!
I’m in Carolina heaven! Fantastic play! Fantastic half! Fantastic coach! Fantastic team!
Man, Roy has done some coaching since the ‘cuse game.
Hey Demarcus Cousins! Impressed yet?
First half scores the last 3 UNC-MSU games: 53-39, 55-34, 50-34
Unreal…
This is Strick’s breakout game. Such a fantastic game by him so far.
Strick is showing some really great speed.
dj_joe: thanks for radio link & love the Cousins comment.
Can anyone confirm THF yelling for Claire yet?
Henson has three blocks first half. Dudeeee that’s awesome!
Halftime margins for last three MSU games: 14, 21 and 16. That’s an average of 17 points even. Thanks CM, for posting those!
As impressive as that first half was, I am anxious to see how they come out after the break. MSU isn’t going to rollover.
MSU is going to make a run. Hopefully if we come out with the same intensity and make our shots, we can keep this lead.
Ginyard’s sick move against Lucas http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdy3YcGbJ-0 love it!
The guys look like they had this game circled on the calender.
I just can’t believe how well the team has looked to this point.
We’ve maintained our intensity for the most part, except for some stupid plays and a few missed shots.
MSU may have cut the lead by 1, but UNC appears to have come out focused.
If this is close to what the team is going to be I’m going to be very happy with this team this year.
Strickland has his big boy pants on tonight.
I’m loving Henson defending on the perimeter. He may not have the best fundamentals, but he’s so long and athletic that he can get faked and still recover.
Back and forth! Wow! This is looking like a Ty Lawson game!
“If this is close to what the team is going to be I’m going to be very happy with this team this year.”
The thing is, I think this team will still get better…
The thing about the pace is I don’t think MSU has the depth to play like this all game. Before tonight I wasn’t so sure that we did either.
You may be right C. Michael. The way that this game has played out so far is the way I’ve imagined this team, coming at you in long and talented waves.
This game is looking fantastic! If we can keep this up, I gotta feeling (that tonight’s gonna be a good, good night) this season is going to suprise a lot of doubters.
Strickland is looking super aggressive tonight.
Dick Vitale talking about Miley Cyrus is flat out creepy.
Strickland has gotten a ton of minutes tonight. Quality minutes. The pg play has been exceptional.
MSU is making a run, but we seem to be holding on pretty well. Keep it up boys!
Delvon Roe, you chose poorly.
The players have looked better with Roy in a sling, maybe he should keep it all year.
MSU getting closer. We just need to take away their momentum. We also need to up our intensity and wear them our in the final minutes.
you got that right marcus. roe’s been thinking that since last year.
looks like roy’s got an 8 man rotation with the wear twins helping out some as the 9th and 10th men.
no excuse getting out hustled for rebounds with the game on the line.
Turnovers and FT shooting are the areas in which the Heels need the most serious attention…again.
otherwise, a very solid effort tonight.
No excuse for D1 players shooting 60% as a team on FTs over and over.
Hold on boys…
also, I heard that Ed isn’t cutting his hair this season…is this true?
if so, I heartily agree.
edit: now three straight uncontested drives to the hoop for Sparty. Nice toughness, Heels…you gotta play 40 minutes, not 38.
key tap out by will graves!
Did anybody else hear Dickie V say that Graves was suspended last season for putting his jersey on ebay? Just a minute ago when they were talking about Graves? If you’re DVRing the game check it out.
unbelievable guard play tonight–big win!
Will Graves has taken a lot of heat this season, but he made two HUGE plays down the stretch.
credit Michigan State for not giving up
Tar Heels have some things to work on, but boy it’s great to know that they can score like gasoline pouring on a fire!
i heard FTs werent that important.
missing almost half of them would appear to back that up.
smallandpettypat,
What Dickie V said was that he was suspended and “couldn’t put his jersey on and play.”
I did a double-take, too..
did you hear that from calipari?
i did not.
Agreed C. Michael. He deserves credit for good plays as much he does the scorn when he makes bad plays.
another nice close win by the heels. love to see the young heels buckle down and dig out a close one.
LD2, and the freshman, were fun to watch. Strickland could really be something.
good home win…Roy will be pissed about all the offensive rebounds msu got…they were the only reason it wasn’t a 25 point win…
It’s looks like the freshman have grown up quite a bit the last week or so. The quality minutes from Strickland and Henson as well as the twins were much appreciated.
Almost thought he broke a story for us
Heels need to do some hand-strengthening exercises. they lost a lot of battles.
Spartans with 22 more shot attempts.
Well, kind of a weak second half again by the Heels. Normally, I would be even more impressed with the win but we own MSU. That makes five in a row over Michigan State since Roy has been here by my count. Drew looked really good. Strickland looked decent and Henson looked like he is on his way.
One thing MSU does is get Offensive rebounds. They crash the boards harder than any other team out there. I’m not ecstatic about the offensive boards we gave up, but I do realize who it was who did it.
Some highlights…
Davis: 22 pts, 6 reb
Drew: 18 pts, 6 ast, 3 TO
Ginyard: 9 pts, 7 ast, 2 TO
Dexter: 14 min, 9 pts, 4 reb, 3 ast, 0 TO, 2 blks
Henson: 14 min, 3 reb, 4 blks
