Kyle Singler almost took out Dook Vitale.

  • Heel To The End

in answer to your Tweet, THF..yes, yes it is.
frankly, they can have all the ACCT trophies they can carry. they can enjoy looking at it after they get beat in a week or two.
i dont even know how many titles we have. i know how many NATIONAL titles we have, tho.

Shulman just took a Singler fanny to the head. i think we know how painful that can be. well, WE dont. but i’m pretty sure someone nearby does.

the N&O says K was upset yesterday that Miami had fewer fouls than they did in the 1st half.
then in the 2nd, it took 18 1/2 minutes for dook to get whistled for their 6th, when Lance Thomas had 3 in the span of a minute. so the rest of the dook squad only fouled 2x in 18 1/2 minutes? riiiiiiiight.

  • unc steph

The refs are giving this one to Duke. That was a lame traveling call.

  • ^^^Speaking of Dook Vitale, on Gameday this AM, when they went to Greensboro, Rece Davis slipped actually called him “Dook.” He caught it and corrected him, but both Hubert and Digger called Davis out and said that he was correct originally.

  • briarcliff

Duke and UNC both have (17) ACC Tournament titles.

DES has 13 ACCT titles. K has 11.

  • Heel To The End

^not something that ever comes up in conversation with my pals. maybe they get a thrill out of it over in Durham.

go AT Singler. if you dont exploit foul trouble, go coach at the Y.

Brant: Singler is playing through adversity.
    uh, what?
    what adversity?
    an awful haircut?
Brant: Favors has to finish that. He’ll learn.
    Tim, youre a moron.

i dont get how coaches and players havent figured out dook’s games. dook guards havent dribbled without using their off hand as a shield for 25 years. theyve reached for 25 years. i’d be slapping their arms every single time down court. make it obvious.

dook shooting terribly. they are begging GT to win this game.
they know they cant win an NCAA title with this team.

wow, Scheyer “fouled” on his right side, and somehow falls to his right, toward the contact. someone in the dook physics dept should investigate how that law was broken.

Tim, dude, just ask Kyle out after the game. there’s another team on the court, if you hadnt noticed.

You know I watched nearly every conference tournament this year and teams have played hard. After this season hopefully our coach will tone down his arrogance and actually try and win the conference tournament instead of calling it a “cocktail party”.

  • For those watching the SEC Tourney, THAT, is why you don’t foul with a three point lead. MSU is lucky to be going to OT…

  • Heel To The End

the missed FT scenario works for Kentucky. unreal.
^i had no problem with the foul, CM. the team that needed luck to go to OT is Ky.

on the bright side, DeMarcus Cousins will easily surpass Rasheed as the biggest baby to ever play the game. he is such a child.

  • ^And it is a shame, too, because he is a sublime talent. $100 body, 10 cent brain…

And I agree that UK needed luck, I’ve just always been of the opinion that there is just as much luck involved with last second 3, and at least there you don’t risk losing in reg.

  • Heel To The End

^we’ll see how long he plays before he does something off court that curtails it. he isnt going to be magically mature anytime soon. and he’ll have money to be dumb with.

MSU missed FTs that wouldve made the final possession moot.

    wow, takedowns legal in SEC.

will GT lose a close one in a game where they took the first 7 minutes of the game off? probably. typical of dookie opponents.

  • ^Hopefully he won’t take financial advice from Antoine Walker at alumni events…

Agreed on MSU’s missed FTs. I also thought MSU fouled too early, as well. With 4.9 seconds, UK could have made the second and put them back on the line.

  • Heel To The End

Zoobeak with the “screen”, feet about 6 feet apart.

naturally, he’ll be shocked when they call that in the NCAA.

so now, its all about 3 things:

    dook losing.
    kentucky losing.
    kansas losing.

the sooner that stuff happens, the sooner i can bury this season in an old onion sack out in the yard.

    ***
West Virginia has a tougher SOS, RPI 4 vs 3, i think, and WV played much tougher competition night in and night out.
so there’s no question dook will get the #1 anyway. that should put WV in their region as the #2, tho.

  • Heel To The End

“Wall did miscalculate. He thought the Wildcats had won on Cousins’ shot and tackled the 6-foot-11, 270-pound forward to the court near the press table, celebrating a wee bit early.”

    math fail.

  • unc steph

Guess what, I do believe we are going to the NIT. I mean why else would they be having practice today @ 6:30. I think they also announce NIT bids after NCAA tournament.

  • wildhorses

^ Tonight at 9:00 on ESPNU.

Refs won’t call it Duke’s way in the NCAA, but the refs didn’t make GT turn the ball over constantly in the second half. (Full disclosure = I’m female.)

I completely oppose personal comments. That said, I’m breaking my own rule, so sue me. Singler makes me think Addams Family every time I see him. Totally creeps me out.

  • Heel To The End

dook over Syracuse as the 3rd #1???
wow. its just so transparent, the kowtowing. because dook won the conference in a down year? did they even bother watching the season?

  • makeitWayne22

dooks got a pretty easy route to the elite eight.

  • Ugh, if you asked me which 4 schools I would not want to see win a title, it would be Syracuse, Duke, UK, and KU. Given that a #1 seed has won the title 8 of the last 11 years (and 14 of 20), it looks like I picked the wrong month to quit sniffing glue…

(For those filling out their brackets, the average seed of the champion over the last 20 years has been 1.5. In addition to the 14 #1-seed champs, #2-seeds have won it 3 times, #3-seeds twice, and a #4-seed once.)

  • Heel To The End

yeah, Syracuse is the least of 4 evils.
and will i have to root for Pitino? i mean, i WILL, of course.

dook gets a Hummel-less Purdue as their 4. i see Texas A&M coming out of there anyway, but still.

    how is Vandy a 4?

how is Miss St out, but Fla in?

if the top #1 gets the weakest #2, how is that OSU?
shouldnt OSU or WV be dook’s #2?

i still cant believe the committee put dook ahead of syracuse. thats ridiculous.

  • And BTW, a big, giant, “BOO!” to CBS for replacing Luther Vandross’ version of OSM with Jennifer Hudson…

  • HTTE,

Yeah, I image Cuse will be the easiest pic for most. For someone who grew up in upstate NY, not so much…

I’ll be rooting for MSU, Nova and Siena (local, little-guy) this year. Huge fan of Izzo and Wright, plus, UNC beat both of them on the way to the last two titles…

  • Heel To The End

head of committee says that dook is over syracuse because of the way they finished.

    uh..beating us, not in NCAA.
beating an ACC 9-seed, with a losing ACC record, not in NCAA. (scoring 57 massive points)
beating a 12-seed, with the worst ACC record, not in NCAA. (by 3)
    beating a 7-seed, a losing ACC record, a 10-seed in the NCAA. (by 4)

so THEIR play down the stretch matters, but Wake’s doesnt. or Miss St’s doesnt. or West Virginia’s doesnt.

make up your mind, committee. what matters?

    ***
OH, now that i think about it, i definitely want Louisville to face dook in round 2.
what will happen when two teams play with the philosophy that refs cant call everything? Pitino invented that strategy.

  • Ron

Any word on Seth Greenberg’s condition? He’s bound to have had a stroke for getting left out this year.

  • Heel To The End

he was pretty respectful on espn earlier.
he’s also asking the committee, since the committee changes personnel, what it is that they want.
VT was picked as low as 11 in the ACC, not picked to win 10 ACC games. they had a weak out of conference SOS. but didnt Utah St?
Utah St never played a ranked team.

  • VaTech has constantly been told that they’ve been left out because they play a weak non-conf, so what do they do? They go out and play the 309th ranked non-conf schedule. Hopefully one day the ACC will break them, Miami, and BC of their Big East ways…

  • Heel To The End

in a different year, their OOC schedule might be better. Temple, Iowa, Georgia, Penn State, Seton Hall.
but they should throw in one game vs a perennial favorite.

  • rathskellar68

    C.Michael –

Do you know where our non-conf schedule was rated? I’m sure OSU, KY, Texas and MSU helped, but then there was Presbyterian, Albany, CoC………….

  • UNC’s SOS was 16th according to CollegeRPI.com

  • rathskellar68

    THF –

    Thanks.

  • LarryS

According to Pomeroy, UNC’s Non-conf. SOS is #139.

I couldn’t find any other NCSOS info.

If you want to see something really strange, in terms of our SOS progress as the season went on, and how it became inversely related to our RPI, check out this info:

    http://statsheet.com/mcb/teams/north-carolina/rank

  • ^^I think that is overall SOS. According to Kenpom, UNC’s overall SOS was 8 and their non-con was 139. VPI was 66 and 317. Non-scientifically, UNC non-con SOS appears about average for a BCS conference team. Not surprisingly, ahuge majority of the top 100 are small schools, though Cal, KSU, WVU, Arizona and Duke are all in the Top 40.

  • rathskellar68

    LarryS –

And thanks to you as well.

  • carolinablue74

Give it a rest guys, the brackets are announced and UNC is not there, so none of this matters anymore.

  • Except I think the point of the discussion was Virginia Tech’s exclusion from the NCAAs and someone asked how UNC’s SOS compared to the Hokies.

  • Heel To The End

i dont begin to understand how RPI or SOS even make sense.

Utah St only PLAYED 3 teams with single-digits in the loss column.
3 teams that will be in the NCAA, 2-3 vs those 3 teams, BYU(7), Saint Mary’s(10), New Mexico St(12).

HALF the teams they played had a LOSING record for the year.

so how are they 32 in the RPI???

  • “so none of this matters anymore.”

To you. Some of us still enjoy talking about college bball.

  • Heel To The End

uh oh…NIT decision is coming up.

  • eddavis32

unc william and mary 4-5 matchup

  • UNC is a 4-seed and will play William and Mary.

NCSU is the 6 in the same bracket.

Miss. St. is the 1 seed.

  • LarryS

    Smith Center?

    Carmichael ?

I hope so. I can walk to Carmichael.

Can’t believe we got a home court seed.

    ***********************
“And thanks to you as well.”

    You’re quite welcome, Rath.

  • joebill

so the 4 seed means UNC to host?

  • Heel To The End

would guess the 1 got the home court. not the 4.

    if its a pod.

IC says we host, Tuesday, 9:30.
must not be a pod system.

  • ^I think the first 3 rounds are at campus locals, then the winners of all 4 brackets go to NYC.

  • Heel To The End

IF we beat W&M, Miss St probably beats us.
unless something remarkable has happened by then.

  • ^Hard to say. MSU has been a very Jekyll and Hyde team this year. They beat Vandy once and played UK tough twice, but they also lost to Rider, WKU and Richmond.

Same can be said of W&M. Beat Wake and Maryland; lost to Iona, Towson, and James Madison.

Moral of the story: if you are in the NIT you probably have some nasty warts…

  • Heel To The End

Greg Barnes at IC is saying tuesday @ 9:30 IN CARMICHAEL.

i’m not sleeping out 5 nights for tickets like i did in 82 for UVA.

  • LarryS

    8 teams times 4 sections

The higher seeds host, so we will at least get the first game here. If we win we play the #1/#8 winner. We would then host second game if #8 beats #1. We will play 3 games here if we keep winning and remain the higher seed.

  • Heel To The End

    its official over at tarheelblue.com

    ticket info later tonight, hopefully.
