Could this be the end of The Lost Season? Maybe. Mississippi St. certainly has the pieces to give UNC fits. However, Deon Thompson and Marcus Ginyard might decide they are still not done yet. At the same time the penchant for this team to show up(or not show up) and lay an egg is inescapable. In other words they might be due one in which case this is not going to end well.
And yes, I am playing the reverse mojo deck here.

61 all. 6 left.
Zeller done with a concussion. fantastic.
so he’d likely miss the next game, too.
LD2 for 3, 64-61, Heels.
Probably not a concussion, but definitely a nasty cut.
HTTE: ;-p
I’ve had to “steal” colors for presentations before. Sadly, not for UNC yet.
um, the trainer said it was a concussion. *shrug*
Where did you hear about a concussion? I only heard (on ESPN) about stitches.
Just before LD’s steal and 3, I told my wife he was going to be good for a 3 before this game was over.
Win or lose, this is a helluva college basketball game.
Tar Heel Radio Network.
out the next game is just me assuming, based on concussion recovery you normally see.
How does Thompson miss that?
and then make that?
Defensive lapse on the three – UNC looks out of sync. Bad time for that.
umm, where’s henson?
Varnado is also a 6’9″ senior. just sayin.
couldnt go another minute without leaving an open 3 ball. nice.
69-66, Dogs, 2:25.
UNC looks out of sync whenever Marcus, Deon and Graves are on the court together. I seriously don’t want to see Marcus or Deon on this team anymore.
Why, oh, why is their weak side D so poor? Always crowding the middle and leaving the open 3!
cb74 its under 5 minutes. Henson can go shower.
What a great lineup by Roy, who needs Henson? You’re the master Roy.
/sarcasam
senior farewell tour continues, time for Ginyard to jack a 3
No foul
better to be lucky than good
71 all, 1 left.
Official calls the trip on Ginyard from 40 feet away on a moving screen. Nice. And reply shows no contact. Double nice.
good call Ellis for stepping on his teammate?
tripped over his own screener.
NIT refs.
Foul? That was crap…you never see Ginyard argue. “It’s a good call”…except when it’s not…”I stand corrected” Thanks.
Stewart fouled by his own man! Bad Call!
Buon Rotto,
Thanks so much.
Go Heels!
these refs have a future at a Durham, NC venue.
Umm shouldn’t the coach be raising hell at this call??
And they get the double bonus…fantastic
Thank-you
missed one, TGH.
who will take the big shot?
bank
Graveeeeeeeeessssssss….banked it!
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? THE BANK IS OPEN IN STARKVILLE!
27 seconds, we are up by two, they are in double bonus and got a point on a bogus call. Not liking this feeling.
thompson has to show on the pick and roll, pleeeese deon play it right for once in your career
What?
Need 27 seconds of the best defense all year, boys…
Did Roy sign a GTech cast-off?
here’s an idea. just play :27 of D. can you be bothered to do that, fellas? force a bad shot, thats all i ask.
Will 4 of 6 from 3 on the ROAD. easily his best.
two-handed BLOCK!!
henson baby
John F. Henson
HENSON…
Wait was he over Deon’s back…NICE
MF
Can’t believe Strickland missed that.
BOTH hands! incredible.
ugh. way to mess up a near sure thing.
missed FT, NO Heel goes for the board, and a foul.
free for a reason, unacceptable
4 more years….
4 more years….
Whats going on?
DREEEW
LD2 wins it!
Salvation for Drew!
Wow. How do you let Drew drive the basket?
game winner nice
end to end, TGH. LD scoops it up and in.
halfway to State in Carmichael.
Gary – Drew drives hoop with 2 seconds left – UNC wins 76-74!
Go NC State baby, nice to see this team not fold on the road for once and they had a chance to fold twice………
Larry Freakin’ Drew!!
Good for him! Let’s hope this is a stepping stone!
Prima-Donna!!!!!!!
Drew says *I’LL* take the big shot.
Mississippi State is snake-bit.
wow I guess we all have to leave LD alone for a couple of hours.
Gimme some Drew hate now…fantastic!
So just to be clear, we are playing in the NIT and maybe starting to figure things out. I would like a little momentum going into next year > So hopefully we can look back at this as a positive outcome, just in case you advocated us not playing in the NIT.
Nice game, go Heels!
Whats the score?
“IF (that’s a big IF) Carolina does squeak by Bill & Mary, Mississippi St will be waiting to flog them in Starkville, but don’t worry I’m sure LDII has a litany of excuses ready to roll after an NIT blowout.”
who said dat?
Can you imagine losing two games in one week the way that MSU did against Kentucky and UNC. That is heartbreaking.
G’damned refs tried their best to give it away.
now who thinks going to the NIT was a bad idea. heels learning the win
Two more and UNC has a 20 win season…
Way to go, LD2! That’s as good as it gets.
Terrific game. Terrific win.
My quest for Carmichael tickets begins immediately!
76-74 final, TGH.
Sweeeeet! I’m so glad I didn’t have to watch this game. I could barely stay rational when they were blowing teams out last year.
John F. Henson with the big block.
Will F. Graves with the big shot on the road.
Larry F. Drew II with a big-time game winner.
And with win #18, Roy Williams makes it to 18 wins every year of his career, and there will be a plus-.500 record.
Now the dilemma – for UNC to play at home, we actually have to pull for State College. I’m not sure I want to play the Wuffies again, guys and gals…
YES! OMIGOSH!!! I CAN’T BELIEVE IT!!!
Not so happy we peaked late, so happy we have a chance to win a championship!
Screw the NCAA, the NIT is where it’s at!
HTTE, thank you, Sir. I look forward to reading about the highlights tommorrow in Stars and Stripes.
“My quest for Carmichael tickets begins immediately!”
And hopefully my quest for MSG tix begins on Tuesday!
was that Brad Hoffman in the stands with his son that they showed after?
where’s william??!!
Way to step up boys!!
The refs and our own missed free throws tried to give away the game, but for once we made the plays. How many games like this have we lost this year, its a hopeful sign that we are starting to win these games!
LD2!!!
I always wanted to go to the NIT, but I think that there is just a different atmosphere and the Heels are playing looser since the Duke game, because none of these games really matter the way that the regular season does.
By the way, notice that everybody ended up going to the NIT who got invited.
In terms of the officiating, the phantom foul probably ended up helping us, not to mention some lucky bounces at the end with Graves’s lucky three pointer falling.
^^^^Good luck, CM. I have a feeling your team-of-choice just might be there.
A very fitting changing-of the-guard, with a shot blocking legend going out and a precocious freshman coming in.
William, I was just hoping the phantom foul didn’t cost us. Justice was ultimately served.
william!
did you see after the game? the camera was on a pearshaped dude with glasses. Hoffman?
Anyone know where Maktar Njay (?) is these days?
I have always loved me some Larry D2. I am so happy for him today.
To all his haters: shut it!
Syracuse, UK, GT, etc. all beat UNC with 20+ point runs. Today they gave up runs, but they held them to 12-13 points, and that was the difference in the game.
I am not sure that I would recognize Brad Hoffman, anymore, hero of the 1975 ACC Tourney with the big shot to bring UNC back from 8 points down in 50 seconds against Wake, since it has been 35 years, but that is great if he was at the game.
Let me check the videotape, lol.
Oh, and sorry I am not pulling for the Pack today, don’t even know who they are playing but I like them. My little one wore his state shirt (that he won during a basketball shoot-out) and that is usually reverse mojo for the Pack.
plus they fought back instead of folding the tent and going home C. Michael…..
I’m pulling for State.
I’m pulling for Wake…
I’m pulling for Doo…..let’s not get carried away.
How about Henson’s volleyball spike that just barely stayed in bounds….
Roy almost screwed the pooch with the lineup that put Graves at the 4, luckily after a MSU run he brought Henson back in with under 5min to play for the first time that I can remember in a close game this season…..
I am happy for Larry Drew, but there were still some lazy passes that could have been critical if Graves’ big shot doesn’t bank in…
^^^ It’s a game of inches, isn’t it?
Fought back… on the road, no less.
How nice would it be for Cal to upset Duke and Carolina and State playing in Carmichael next week while Duke tries to explain another early NCAAT exit, ah to dream
i have never seen a two-handed tomahawk block.
^^^^^^^well considering you predicted a rollover-beatdown, it should be all gravy.
Yeah, that might be Brad Hoffman, but I don’t think he looks that bad at all for 50+. I have seen much bigger “pears”….
