Harrison Barnes Highlights

As a warm-up to the Jordan Brand Classic tonight on ESPN2.

The highlights were sent along by Mike Richman at Oregon Live who was on hand for the Nike Hoop Summit and told me via email:

Barnes is the truth, in case you had even the slightest doubts, believe the hype.

At this point I think most doubt has been removed. Among UNC’s many problems this past season the two most prominent in terms of scoring points was bad perimeter shooting and an inability to finish at the rim, especially with contact or traffic. Barnes can do both quite well.

And if I were rating players on a scale of 1-10 on whether they “get it”  Barnes would get like a 15…easy.

I watched that game live and was smiling the whole time because of what I saw. He can get his teammates to play with the same intelligence and intensity that he does we could be very good next year.

best pro prospect at UNC since Vince Carter

Hate saying this, but aside from bulk, this kid is the most pro-ready player to suit up for UNC in recent memory. He has an inside game and an outside game and he plays to win. Will he stay 3 years? Who knows?! There is no way he is kept off the starting lineup, because we really don’t have any players on our roster better than him.

  • I hear ya MakeitWayne. His body does resemble that of Dwayne Wade, Jason Richardson, Richard Jefferson, and those types. You very well may be right. It has been an awful long time since we have had the Carter, Kenyon Martin, Ron Artest types who look athletic enough to jump out of the gym while they were in college. I miss those. Always loved to watch Stack, Carter, Reese, Noel, and even other guys in the NBA who I didn’t see in college like J.R. Smith, Josh Smith, Andre Igoudala. That is the type of player we haven’t had in a while.

I admit those guys don’t always equal NC’s for a team, but they make the game fun to watch as a spectator. My props to Danny Green for being some of that for us during his tenure.

  • We’ve also, in recent memory, haven’t had the likes of a Dikembe Mutombo, and that other cat who played for UConn last year, think his name was Thabeet. Henson seems to be among that kind of class in his style of play. This upcoming season should be REALLY fun, if nothing else. Whether we are going to be very successful or not remains to be seen, but our “brand” of basketball will be energizing and exciting in 2010-2011.
