A quick technical note. It would seem this blog has grown enough that the current web hosting no longer handles high traffic periods, such as game threads, as well as I had hoped. I have been working over the course of several weeks to resolve these issues but so far have only seen mixed results. Please be aware the site may be slow or unresponsive this evening during the course of the game and afterwards.
The ideal start to this game would be Harrison Barnes doing exactly what he did last year when the Heels played NC State in Chapel Hill. At any rate, I expect a good game and a solid test for the first game played without Dexter Strickland.

One thing I hate about basketball broadcasting over the last five years would be the replay of the last scoring highlight regardless of what happened on the court to stop play. We get a bs call on Barnes and then get to see a few State baskets. Do they understand why instant replay is great for fans? I guess not.

I don’t think one could have asked for much more than what the Heels brought to night. Terrific D by Bulloch, great bench play, and White gets an A-. (It would have been an A+ but for that 2nd 3-pt. brick)
What else can you say about Zeller? If he keeps this up, he’ll be doing some Dodge Ram commercials.
I do see Roy working them a little harder this week, though, on 3-Pt. banker D, and shots from beyond the half-court line.

The 3pt shooting since conference play began is slowly concerning me. UNC was around 40% from 3 prior to Miami, I think we’ve been 20-something% since then.

^^Reggie showed some signs of returning to form. If Barnes and Hairston just knocked down 1 each, of their attempts, they’re up to 44%.
The frontcourt has been playing so well that just a little improvement in the perimeter game will go a long way. I would like to see them all be on the same page – the stat page that is.
^The important this is that Reggie was 3 for 5 and played very good defense. Defenses will not be able to pack the lanes at the start of games anymore.

I know VPI and NC State are not strong rebounding teams, but +45 rebounds, in those two games, is some serious boardwork.
^Actually before today, NC State was 22nd in the country in rebounding margin.
