Exam week.

UNC had a light week with the exam schedule kicking off. The Heels played just two games, both midweek and had the weekend off. On Tuesday, the Heels fell to UNC Greensboro 8-4. The story in this game was Chris Munnelly getting shelled in 1.2 innings of work followed by RC Orlan giving up nine hits. UNC mustered only four runs on the way to the loss.

One night later, UNC got the best of ECU(its 14th straight win over the Pirates) in a pitcher's duel. Kent Emanuel pitched into the ninth giving up only four hits, no walks and striking out seven. Michael Morin finished the game giving up three hits and striking out three in 1.2 innings. In the bottom of the 10th Chaz Frank sent a two out single up the middle to plate Mike Zolk for the 1-0 win.

The Heels now move into a crucial portion of the season as they play for seeding position in the NCAA Tournament. Mike Fox announced on his Monday radio show with Jones Angell that All-American 3B Colin Moran had been cleared to return to action. Moran had been doing some limited work but had not been fully cleared. The question now is how quickly Moran can get back into rhythm and get his hitting stroke back. UNC still has 14 games left in the regular season which is probably enough time for Moran to get on track in time for the NCAA Tournament. In addition to Moran, the pitching seemed to be a little ragged. Since UNC got a week off that should help the pitching staff be a little fresher.
