Marquise Williams Not Currently Enrolled at UNC

Liz Condo-USA TODAY Sports

A brief but possibly huge news item from UNC this morning. As first reported by the N&O's Andrew Carter, Tar Heel backup QB Marquise Williams is not presently enrolled in classes at UNC.

According to Inside Carolina, Williams is still a member of the team and would be eligible for a return in the fall. However for reasons yet to be explained the redshirt freshman from Charlotte is not taking classes this semester.

Obviously it remains to be seen what ultimately happens with Williams and why behind him taking a semester off. UNC is running fairly deep(and young) on the QB depth chart behind presumptive starter Bryn Renner. Kanler Coker will be in his second season when fall camp opens having redshirted in 2012. Coker, a three star recruit out of Georgia, committed to UNC last January after Patton Robinette failed to enroll early and ended up at Vanderbilt. In addition to Coker, Mitch Trubisky has enrolled early at UNC. Scout.com has him ranked as the #15 QB in the 2013 class and a four star recruit.

If Williams does not end up playing in the fall, UNC has options behind Renner but none of them experienced at the college level.
