Last week's results: def. Coastal Carolina 5-1, Elon 14-5, swept Duke 7-1, 4-1, 10-1
Record Last Week: 5-0
Record This Season: 39-2, 18-2 ACC
Upcoming Schedule: 4/23 vs UNC Wilmington, 4/24 vs Charlotte, 4/26-4/28 at NC State

At this point the #1 ranked Tar Heels are operating in the realm of the ridiculous in terms of their overall record. UNC is 39-2 which is the best ever start for an ACC team. The last loss for the Heels came on April 1st against Clemson or over three weeks ago.

This past week UNC dispatched Coastal Carolina 5-1 then played Elon for a second straight week defeating the Phoenix 14-5. Over the weekend the Tar Heels took on rival Duke sweeping the Blue Devils before a record crowd at Boshamer Stadium.

The first two games were played as part of a day-night doubleheader due to inclement weather on Friday night. Kent Emanuel was absolutely filthy in the first game leading the Heels to a 7-1 win. Emanuel gave up a hit and walk in the first inning. After than the only blemish on his line was a solo home run in the seventh inning. The Tar Heel ace threw only 102 pitches for his third complete game of the season. Brian Holberton, filling in at clean-up for the injured Skye Bolt was 3-5. In the evening game, Benton Moss, Chris McCue and Trent Thornton combined to hold Duke to one run on give hits as the Heels won 4-1. Landon Lassiter had three hits and scored twice to pace the offense.

The series finale saw Hobbs Johnson pitch 7.1 innings of shutout ball as he continues to work closer to full form. UNC had it rolling at the playte with 16 hits on the way to a 10-1 to sweep the series. Holberton had a double and a home run to notch four RBIs. Cody Stubbs and Parks Jordan had two RBIs each.

UNC's dominance through 41 games will be put to the test over the next month when UNC will face 10 games versus ranked opponents out of the final 15 left on the schedule. Given that and the very nature of baseball, it would not be surprising to see UNC drop a few games. And even if that were the case, it is possible UNC ends up with 50 wins by the end of the regular season.
