What a competitior and one of the greatest UNC and ACC running backs ever. The epitome of a Bill Dooley running back tough as nails and didn't shy away from a hit. I enjoyed watching his career unfold during my high school years which probably was the period in my life when I was most obsessed with UNC sports(in a slightly unhealthy way). It was so sad the way his NFL career had to end before it ever had a chance. Please allow your self a moment of silence in tribute to Mike.... I'll never forgive Dick "the prick" Crum for the way he tried to remove Mike's pics , etc after he felt Mike slighted him in a game with MiamiO.

It is time to separate football from all the other sports, and then, honestly, I don't care what happens to UNC football, which hasn't been relevant since 1982, and don't tell me about the two really good years that we had in the late 90's. Kansas had a couple a couple of years ago, too. Who cares?

I was there in school and I witnessed the fall of UNC football, and it ain't never coming back, and the recent scandal makes this more clear than ever.

Football is inherently corrupt at the college level and most North Carolinians look down their noses at the backward Southern states that put football ahead of basketball.

Can you say Alabama? Can you spell it? How about Mississippi? Can you spell that one? And then you have Tennessee, the part of North Carolina that North Carolina didn't even want. We might not love the New Jerseyites over at Duke, but we do respect them. I can't say the same about Mississippi State or LSU or their states.

Dean Smith won back in the early 80's and Bill Dooley lost, and believe it or not, many of us were somewhat indifferent at the time. I truly loved UNC football in the late 70's and early 80's, which was almost at parity with basketball then and had almost equally famous players at the college and pro level. Nevertheless, you can't have it all, and when Michael Jordan nailed that shot in 1982, it took UNC the final distance from being a football school in the 50's, to being at parity due to McGuire and Smith, to being a basketball school.

Yes, you can be decent at both football and basketball, if you are a huge university, but you cannot be consistently great at both. OSU last won a basketball title when Bobby Knight played there. USC never won one. Florida won two, but that was due to their entire recruiting class turning out to be way better than represented and then staying. They haven't come close since.

UCLA, Indiana, Kentucky, Kansas, UNC and Duke have proved that specialization works, not only in economics but in basketball, as well, over and over the last 40 years.

Sorry.

I actually came here looking for some Danny Green news, but maybe I am the only one. I am trying to come up with a Danny Green joke, something that has something to do with Michael Jordan or Marcus Ginyard....

You know, I don't really care that Colin Moran missed 40% of the season. His numbers are still every bit as good as anyone in the league's, and he should have gotten some love in the All-Conference voting.

The guy is a hitting machine. If he doesn't go in the top 5 of next year's draft, I'll be stunned.

Didn't Taylor last pitch in the Sunday game against Duke?

I agree with you about the pitching rotation. Pitching Emanuel on Thursday and Taylor on Wednesday sets up well for the NCAAT. Having Taylor as a 4th starter will really help in the tournament as well.

Sorry, meant College of Charleston, not Coastal Carolina. Shows how half-baked my views are at this point.

This will show my naivete and how I just don't get "it", but I thought "we" (UNC/Duke/Wake/UVa) should have given FSU, Clemson, NC State (ha!), and anyone else that wanted to join them the push out the door back in the fall and pulled Davidson, Vanderbilt, and perhaps Coastal Carolina into the new ACC. Yes, I recognize (and embrace) that this would be complete capitulation to the tidal shift in college athletics. Good deal...all for it.

Will these spread-out, geographically expansive conferences doom non-revenue sports? Or will the higher conference payouts cover that? Will increased travel time mean decreased classroom time? These mega-conferences are looking more and more like pro leagues without any regard for the student part of student-athlete. It's all about the money, money, money...
