Congratulations to Roy Williams on getting his 500th career win.
Since the game was not televised this will be a short summary since all I have to go on is the box score. Statistically speaking it looked like a solid effort for UNC after the week long break for exams. UNC shot the ball well, held High Point to 43% shooting and only 69 points. UNC on the other hands lit up the Panthers for 63% from the field taking control of the game by the midway point of the first half. UNC outrebounded High Point 40-21 and got a huge game from Tyler Hansbrough who had 24 points on 9-11 shooting. Reyshawn Terry had another productive game with 11 points and eight rebounds, three of them offensive boards. Brandan Wright and Ty Lawson continued to play well with 11 points a apiece with Lawson running the point almost solely with Bobby Frasor out resting a sore hip and foot. Lawson had six assists and only two turnovers as well as shooting the ball much better from the free throw line.
It also appears the rotation was focused on 10 guys with Frasor out and only five broke 20 minutes. Marcus Ginyard had 19 minutes and chipped in 10 points. Deon Thompson and Danny Green played 16 mins each with Wes Miller and Alex Stepheson playing 12 minutes. No single Tar Heel logged more than 27 minutes either. Quite frankly this is a nice balance and give UNC a lot of breathing room in terms of fresh legs. I would expect those starters to log a few more minutes when the conference season starts out of necessity but by and large it would appear the rotation is settling down somewhat.
UNC will not play again until next Saturday when they plan to throttle UNC Asheville at the Smith Center.
