#1 UNC vs #2 Georgetown

What: NCAA Tournament East Regional Final
Where: Continental Airlines Arena, East Rutherford, NJ
When: March 25th, 5:05 PM
Records: UNC 31-6; Georgetown 29-6

NCAA Tournament Results: UNC def. Eastern Ky, Michigan State, USC; Georgetown def. Arkansas, Boston College, Vanderbilt.

This is the matchup everyone wanted when the bracket for the East Regional was announced. And it is very odd to think about 25 years ago and the fact these two teams played for the national championship with names like Worthy, Ewing, Perkins, and Jordan playing on the biggest stage college basketball has to offer.

This game is not as big but it is close. This will also be the most intriguing matchup of the season for UNC. The Heels have not faced a team this season which such accomplished interior players that Georgetown has. In fact Kentucky with 6-10 Randolph Morris and Gonzaga with 6-10 Josh Hyvelt may constitute the best centers UNC has seen all season. So the matchup down low between the seven footer Hibbert and Hansbrough will be crucial and I am convinced that foul trouble will have more to do with what happens in this game than anything else. The second aspect is whether UNC can run the ball and keep the pace up when you consider that Georgetown has absolutely no bench. If the Heels can force the pace and keep with the 11 man rotation which keeps them so rested for the home stretch of the second half I think the Hoyas will have a great deal of trouble keeping up. Of course the running game is predicated on the rebounding. These two teams are strikingly similar statistically in terms of their domination of the boards. Whoever wins that battle might win the game.

It all comes down to this game for a chance to head to the Final Four and a rematch with Ohio State.

And yes, I wish my Daddy was alive to see this one, he would have liked to see a rematch of these two teams.
