And now for the rest of the story. Virginia Tech and Boston College kicked off the weekend with a highly important and great game on Thursday night. Things can only go down from here.
Clemson at Maryland
I am almost prepared to pick against Clemson simply because James Davis guaranteed a win. It was the Maryland game last season that sent both teams off in different directions, Clemson down the toilet and Maryland to nine wins and one victory away from Jacksonville. The Terps are no pushover here despite the loss to Virginia. For some reason I think Clemson will actually right the ship a little more and pull this one out late.
Clemson 28 Maryland 26
#15 Virginia at North Carolina State
NC State reminds me a little of UNC last season. It just seems that have weathered the really bad part of their season as UNC did and for reasons that are not entirely clear they starting playing much better versus ECU. Virginia has been playing with fire all season. The Cavs come to Raleigh with a book of matches and some kerosene plus a pretty good defense. The Pack has handled most teams they have played with their defense so this one will likely be low scoring with the Cavs escaping bearing only minor burns and smoke inhalation.
Virginia 16 NC State 9
Duke at Florida State
If FSU loses this one, I don't care how long Bobby Bowden has been in Tallahassee, he should really think about retiring. Especially considering during the ACC conference call this week he could not remember from one moment to the next who is his starting QB is.
FSU 28 Duke 10
UNC at Wake Forest
Butch Davis vs the mysteries of the Jim Grobe offense.
Wake Forest 23 UNC 20
Georgia Tech is on bye and Chan Gailey is probably using the time to update his resume while Miami enjoys the win over FSU.
Record So Far This Week: 1-0
Record This Season: 48-18
