During the past week both coaches for these two teams had their immediate future settled. One on side Butch Davis had his contract extended by one year and received a nearly $300,000 raise to quell any rumors he might take off for points west and Ted Roof was fired effective the moment UNC retains the victory bell for another season. Two programs heading in different direction. Well actually any program moving a snail's pace is moving in a different direction from Duke who is seemingly mired forever in the mud of perpetual football futility.
UNC will look to cap off what I think has been a good first season under Davis. Setting the record aside, UNC has enjoyed a different buzz around the program, more confidence and competitiveness on the field. There have been plenty of bright spots and nothing would be finer than to conclude a four win season(correctly predicted here) with a complete effort against Duke. In other words they should crush Duke in a rapid and consequential manner. The season should end the way it began with UNC dominating a team they have every business dominating.
