Dave Sez points out the NCAA's decision - pending on approval from a Playing Rules Oversight Committee - to extend the three-point line by a foot. The resulting rule change would put the line three inchess outside the international standard, which is a bit odd, but overall the change is long overdue.
Dave complains about the line not being moved for the women's game, which is a good choice considering the dearth of outside shooting there. Yeah, many courts will have two lines, but UNC (the women play at Carmichael), State (the women play at Reynolds) and Wake (the women play in a sad little gym the size of a small high school's) won't. That trend of different gyms for the two teams is dying out though as both Virginia and Maryland moved both their men's and women's teams to the new gyms they opened in recent years.
