Heels Cannot Close Out Virginia

A combination of some ambitious scheduling by the ACC and the failure to seal the deal late made for a crappy start of the postseason as the Heels lose the ACC Tournament opener to Virginia 8-7 in 11 innings.

UNC wasted a solid outing from Alex White who gave up three unearned runs early but settled down to shut the Cavaliers down.  The Heels responded by getting four runs and UNC was up 4-3 in the ninth when UVa got to closer Rob Wooten for two runs to take the lead.  This started a seesaw as UNC tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, both teams scored in the 10th and UVa ultimately took an insurmountable two run lead in the 11th that the Heels cut to one with the based loaded and two out before flying out to end the game.

Not the start you are looking for considering FSU is lurking on Friday.  The upside for UNC is they get the day off after playing to nearly 1 AM this morning and will try to regroup.  The ACC was under the impressions they could get four games in in 13 hours.  They were wrong.

At this point UNC needs to beat Wake Forest and FSU to post a 2-1 mark and hope UVa loses twice during that span.

Next game is Friday at 8 PM versus Wake Forest
