According to Ken Pomeroy, here is where the Heels stand in terms of defensive and offensive efficiency:
Adjusted Defensive Efficiency: 86.7, 11th overall
Adjusted Offensive Efficiency: 120.5, 1st overall
By comparison here is what the 2005 team looked like by season's end:
Adjusted Defensive Efficiency: 86.7, 5th overall
Adjusted Offensive Efficiency: 126.6, 1st overall
So the 2009 Heels have posted the same defensive efficiency rating as the 2005 team. I also think there is room to improve, especially if they can get Marcus Ginyard healthy. A definite move in the right direction and hopefully the Heels will keep it going.
