ACC Seeding Scenario For UNC

Via ACC Now.

Here is what UNC is looking at:

UNC (26-3, 12-3)

• Will be the No. 1 seed with a victory over Duke

• Will be the No. 1 seed with a loss to Duke AND a Wake Forest loss.

If there is a tie between Wake Forest and Clemson for third place, North Carolina (1-1) will hold a better record against those teams than Duke (1-2).

If there is a tie between Wake Forest, Clemson and Florida State for third place, North Carolina (2-1) will hold a better record against those teams than Duke (3-2).

• Will be the No. 2 seed with a loss to Duke AND a Wake Forest win to clinch third place; Duke was 1-1 against Wake Forest, while North Carolina was 0-1.

Clemson plays Wake Forest in Winston-Salem at 6 PM Sunday. So if the Heels lose to Duke(perish the thought) they will have to wait for that game to end to know if they will be the #1 or #2 seed. The simplest solution is to just win baby and that goes beyond the ACC seeding. I think the #1 seed business for the NCAA Tournament gets dicey should UNC lose to Duke simply because UNC and Duke would have nearly indentical records overall and their RPI ranking is about the same. That would make the ACC Tournament a very high stakes affair which is not all bad considering the luster it seems to have lost of late.

At any rate, a win versus Duke is preferable for many, many reasons.
