Via Fox Sports, Virginia has decided to fire head basketball coach Dave Leitao.
Not really a shocker. Leitao rode Sean Singletary and J.R. Reynolds to an 11-5 finish in the ACC during his 2nd season in Charlottesville and after Reynolds left the wheels started coming off. This season, despite the play of freshman Sylven Landesburg, UVa ended up with a losing record. Leitao was also known as one of the more verbally abusive coaches to his own players in ACC. That sort of thing can be a drag on recruiting. More than that, UVa has a brand new arena and the boosters who raised money for that building would probably love to see a winning team playing there.
Possible replacements? Gary Parrish thinks Oklahoma's Jeff Capel could be target #1.
