The good news? Alex White pitched 9 innings giving up one earned run and striking out 12.
The bad news? ASU's Josh Spence did practically the same thing.
So it went to the tenth at which point Tar Heel reliever Brian Moran fell apart along with the defense and the Heels are facing elimination in the College World Series again. White put on a masterful performance, possibly his last as a Tar Heel but the hitting and defense let him down. UNC batters were unable to do much more than poke singles back up the middle. Credit Spence for some of that, especially enticing UNC batters into swinging at sliders in the dirt.
Now UNC gets Southern Miss at 2 PM on Tuesday, June 16th. Assuming they get past the Golden Eagles they would face the loser of the Texas-ASU game.
