UNC Is Omaha Bound Again

North Carolina earned their fourth straight trip to the College World Series with a convincing 9-3 win over East Carolina to sweep the Super Regional best of three series. The Heels rode quality pitching and some hot bats to outscore the Pirates 19-4 over two days. The nine run total marked the first time in four games UNC did not score ten runs.

With UNC leading 4-0 in the sixth, Dustin Ackley took a 3-2 pitch almost in on his hands and muscled it to left field and over the fence for a three run home run which gave the Heels a 7-0 lead. Adam Warren went 7.1 innings striking out eight for his 16th win of the season. Brian Moran came in to close the game out. Overall the Heels got by without greatly expending its pitching staff save the 130+ pitches thrown by Alex White on Saturday and 118 tossed by Warren in Game 2.

UNC joins Arkansas, LSU and Cal State Fullerton who have already qualified for Omaha. CWS play opens on June 13th.
