There is a legitimate debate on whether Georgia Tech's Derrick Morgan or UNC's Robert Quinn is the leagues defensive player of the year. Morgan leads the ACC in sacks with 12.5. Quinn is 2nd with 11.0. However, Quinn leads the conference in tackles for loss with 17 versus Morgan's 15. Quinn also was 2nd in fumbles forced with six. Morgan received more votes than Quinn did in the voting for All-ACC defensive end. Deunta Williams and Kendric Burney combined for 11 of UNC's 19 INTs this season. Quan Sturdivant was just all sorts of awesome both in name and wreaking havoc. As was Bruce Carter. Marvin Austin seemed to be more productive as the season wore on and was all over the field against NCSU.
Also, kudos to Casey Barth for making the 2nd team. Barth was as shaky as a kicker can get early on but ran a streak of 16 straight FGs before the blocked attempt versus NCSU.
