Ed Davis Could Miss Wake Forest Game

Sigh...

ACC Now is reporting that Ed Davis could be out for Wake Forest as he recovers from what seems like the 178th sprained ankle of the Roy Williams era. Larry Drew, who sat out of practice Monday due to a hyperextended knee will be back today. If Davis cannot go, it is looking like either Travis Wear or possibly Will Graves at the four.

If Davis, UNC's second-leading scorer and top rebounder — can't go, expect freshman Travis Wear to start in his place. Williams said
starting small forward Will Graves could also play some at power forward -- and would likely slide to that position before 6-10 John
Henson, the back-up small forward. "I would think Will would slide to the '4' before John would because he's done it before. But again, it's conjecture."

This is complicated further by the fact Tyler Zeller is out. UNC is basically down to one experienced big man in Deon Thompson. Adding fuel to the fire here is the fact Wake Forest is a very big and physical team with a quick PG, the type of matchup that tends to produce 200 comments on THF game threads, none of them happy ones. Not to mention Tar Heel players having to deal with Demon Deacon center Chas McFarland who has developed the reputation of being somewhat of a goon out there. If anyone saw the Duke-Wake Forest game Sunday night you know that McFarland in particular will be physical just for the sake of being physical. I am also willing to bet that Karl Hess is in Chapel Hill on Wednesday night to really muck things up. That is unless the ACC decides to send him to Raleigh to muck up the Duke-NCSU game which would be far more entertaining for me.
