Maryland Hires Mark Turgeon

And yes I had a joke about confusing Turgeon for sturgeon but I decided to spare the world.

Maryland's search for a new basketball coach ended four days after it began following a flurry of high profile rejections before landing Texas A&M head coach Mark Turgeon. Overall this is a good hire but not one that blows you away. At the same time, its now like Maryland is scraping the bottom of the barrel here or ended up with John Lucas which would have been the Terps answer to Matt Doherty or Sidney Lowe. Maryland AD Kevin Anderson took a run at Arizona's Sean Miller with multiple reports popping up on Saturday saying it was a done deal. 99.9 The Fan's Adam Gold(a Maryland alum) said on Monday that Miller to Maryland was a done deal but essentially Anderson screwed the pooch. See, Dick Baddour's not the only AD who can really hose up a coaching search.

Turgeon has discernible connections to the UNC coaching family. Turgeon played for Larry Brown at Kansas and when his career ended became an assistant on the Kansas staff. He remained at Kansas following Brown's departure spending four years as an assistant under Roy Williams before leaving to take the same job at Oregon.

Now, Turgeon inherits a full blow rebuilding project leaving a loaded Texas A&M team to do it. Have fun with that!
