A couple of baseball and football items to chew on.
Baseball
The UNC baseball team took care of business against two midweek opponents in two days. The Heels traveled to Wilmington to face UNCW coming back with an 11-5 win. Greg Holt put UNC ahead 5-2 on a grand slam in the fourth. Holt ended up with five RBIs on the day and Cody Stiles pitched seven strong innings giving up two earned runs while striking out six. On Wednesday, the Heels hosted UNC Asheville beating the Bulldogs 4-2. Ben Bunting was 2-4 and scored the game winning run in the seventh. Next up UNC heads to the Bermuda Triangle Atlanta for a crucial three game series with Georgia Tech. UNC is currently fourth in the Coastal Division two games behind the 2nd place Yellow Jackets and four back of division leading Virginia. The Heels final six ACC games of the regular season will be against those two teams.
Football
The ACC released the first three weeks of football kickoff times as well as TV assignments. UNC opens the season in Kenan Stadium on September 3rd at 3:30 PM vs James Madison. That game will be broadcast on the new Regional Sports Network which, according to the ACC, is a second conference network on regional cable outlets such as Fox Sports Carolinas and Fox Sports South. Since ESPN now has rights to all the games some of them will be on ABC/ESPN, others will appear on the ACC Network(i.e. Raycom) and others will be on this Regional Sports Network with games being sold to regional cable channels. UNC's first game versus a JMU team which beat Virginia Tech a year ago falls in this category. On Septembers 10th UNC hosts Rutgers as 12:30 on the ACC Network. UNC's game versus Virginia on September 17th will be on ESPNU at 3:30 PM. For those who attend games at Kenan and sit on the north side of the stadium bring plenty of sunscreen.
