Hunter "Destroyer of Worlds" Furr Will Transfer[UPDATED]

Screw everything else, THIS now constitutes grounds to fire everyone. In fact fire the entire administration and install Hunter Furr as General Vice Overlord or something.

Inside Carolina is reporting that RB Hunter Furr is transferring. No reason was given as to why and this could very well be the first of many depending on whether players want to hang in there during this volatile transition period. As you might recall Furr was elevated to folk hero status after UNC's win at Florida St. last season by running for 27 yards on three carries in a crucial late fourth quarter drive to give UNC the lead. Those yards comprise almost all of Furr's season rushing total. Furr had five carries for 30 yards in 2010.

Furr was listed as the backup in the spring and having him around as insurance would be nice. UNC should have backs to fill the void in Furr's absence. It would be beneficial to have Furr from a special teams standpoint and some added leadership since he is a junior.

At any rate, best wishes to Furr wherever he ends up. The memories of the FSU game will last a lifetime even if the NCAA vacates it all in December.

UPDATE: Statements added via Inside Carolina at the link above.

"Hunter came to me this week and asked for his release," said interim head coach Everett Withers. "He is seeking an opportunity for more playing time and I respect his wishes. We’ve enjoyed having Hunter in the program and I wish him nothing but the best as he continues his college career."

"I would like to thank the entire Carolina coaching staff for their support and guidance over the last two years," said Furr. "I've enjoyed being a part of this program and I’ve developed several great relationships with my teammates and coaches. I feel it’s in the best interest of my football career to transfer and compete for playing time at another institution. I have nothing but respect for Coach Withers and I believe he will do an outstanding job building the program."

Translate that however you'd like.
