Whoops...I read that wrong, turns out it was just four players. Four out of 50. Can you smell what Roy is cooking?
North Carolina became the first school to have four players named to the Wooden Award preseason top 50 list when Harrison Barnes, Tyler Zeller, John Henson and Kendall Marshall grabbed spots on the list, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced on Monday. No other Atlantic Coast Conference players made the list.
This is one of those "nice but it really doesn't matter" sort of deals. However the fact UNC has four of its five starters on a watch list for a national player of the year award is awesome and pressure inducing at the same time. It almost puts them in "national title or bust" territory. I say almost because, unlike 2009, there is not nearly the separation between UNC and the rest of the field. Kentucky and Ohio St. to name two have the personnel to beat UNC. What gives UNC an edge is experience and returning much of the team intact. That includes all of the starters from a squad that went to the Elite Eight and won the ACC regular season.
