Closing the Book on Kendall Marshall's Record Season

Of the various unfortunate aspects surrounding Kendall Marshall's broken wrist was the premature halting of his record setting season. Marshall ended the 2011-12 season in possession of a few UNC and ACC records for assists. Here is how those shook out.

Marshall was in line to break another UNC and ACC record but ended up just short. The A/TO mark in both the UNC and ACC is held by Ty Lawson who posted a 3.48 in 2009. Marshall was ahead of this mark prior to the NCAA Third Round game versus Creighton at 3.50. After his 11 assists, four turnover performance Marshall's A/TO ratio dropped to 3.475. In other words the difference between breaking the record or not came down to one turnover. Had Marshall posted 11 assists versus three turnovers against Creighton his A/TO would be 3.51.

Marshall ends his two year career at UNC with 581 assists in 73 games for a 7.9 assists per game. He is eighth in UNC history for assists in a career.
