A perfect week capped off by a big sweep over Clemson to open the ACC season.

It was a big week for the Tar Heels as they improved to 13-2 overall and opened ACC play at 3-0 with a huge sweep of Atlantic Division favorite Clemson.

The two midweek games came against in-state schools with UNC winning the final game of an eleven game home stand vs Davidson 5-4. Tom Zengel broke a 4-4 tie in 8th and Michael Morin came on to record the first of four saves on the week. On Wednesday, freshman Benton Moss had a three hitter over 8.1 innings while striking out eight before giving way to Morin as the Heels took down Elon 3-0.

On Friday, UNC opened a weekend series at Clemson with a 4-3 win over the Tigers. Kent Emanuel went seven innings giving up three runs, one of those earned for his fourth win of the season. RC Orlan did the setup work and Morin shut the door for his third save in as many games. Colin Moran had two RBIs to pace the Heels' offensive attack.

In game two, UNC rallied from down 3-2 to tie the game in the seventh then added three runs in the ninth to seal the game. Chris Munnelly got the start but only lasted 4.2 innings giving up three earned runs on six hits. After that it became one of those Mike Fox bullpen games with four Tar Heels parading to the mound prior to another appearance from Morin and his sixth save of the season.

The Heels made what had been a rough day for UNC fans a little better on Sunday with a 6-5 win in 11 innings over the Tigers. Jacob Stallings went 3-6 with a home run and had two RBIs on the same day his father, Vanderbilt basketball coach Kevin Stallings' team beat Kentucky to win the SEC Tournament.  Moran went 3-5 with an RBI. Freshman Chris O'Brien started but only went 3.1 innings. The Heels gave up five runs through six innings and trailed 5-2 until the ninth when the Heels posted three runs to send the game to extra innings. In the top of the 11th Moran led the inning off with a double and a two out single by Mike Zolk plated the go ahead run. Morin finished 2.1 innings of work in the bottom the inning to earn his first win of the season.

UNC will play four of the next five games on the road including a three game series in College Park against Maryland next weekend.
