UNC 8th in Director's Cup Standing Following Winter Sports Season

The Learfield Sports Director's Cup standings were updated on Thursday and UNC is sitting eighth overall following the conclusion of the winter sports.

The full standings can be found here. UNC was hurt tremendously by the women's basketball team being excluded from the NCAA Tournament which would have least been 25 points and vaulted the Heels into sixth.

UNC is second among ACC schools behind Florida State who is fourth. ACC Now has a full breakdown of where the rest of the ACC teams fell in the standings following FSU and UNC.

No. 13 – Duke
No. 22 – Virginia
No. 26 – Virginia Tech
No. 27 – Maryland
No. 33 – Boston College
No. 47 – N.C. State
No. 57 – Miami
No. 65 – Clemson
No. 76 – Wake Forest
No. 128 – Georgia Tech

Looking at how the spring might play out, UNC has ranked teams in men's and women's lacrosse(9th and 3rd respectively.) The baseball team is ranked in the top ten and poised for another College World Series run while the softball team is currently 21st in the nation and should be included in the NCAA Tournament. In addition to those tennis and track & field will likely produce points on both the men's and women's side.

Stanford, as it has always done, will win the darn thing because the Cardinal wins a bunch of sports no one pays attention to.
