The McDonald's All-American Boys' Team rosters were announced today with two future Tar Heels tapped to play for the East squad. Oxford Webb(NC) forward Isaiah Hicks and West Charlotte(NC) forward Kennedy Meeks become the latest in a long line of Tar Heel recruits to play in the game which will take place on April 3rd in Chicago's United Center.
Hicks and Meeks will be joined by a pair of Duke recruits in Matt Jones and Jabari Parker. PG Cat Barber, an NC State commit will also play in the game. Kentucky, which continues to suck all the oxygen out of the room where recruiting is concerned, had five commits named to the two teams.
The nation's top recruit Andrew Wiggins will play for the East team. Wiggins recently trimmed his list of teams to four with Florida State still considered the slight favorite over Kentucky, Kansas and UNC. Wiggins is tentatively scheduled to take an official visit in Chapel Hill on March 9th, the same day Duke makes the trip over from Durham. At present, the scuttlebutt indicates UNC is likely behind the other three schools. However, having the top recruit in the country visit for the Duke game is as good a scenario as you could hope for.
Quick note: The McDonald's All-American Girls Team was also announced today. UNC had three recruits named including Diamond DeShields(daughter of baseball player Delino DeShields), who is being hailed by many analysts as a female version of Michael Jordan. Obviously it is difficult to parse what is real and what is hype in recruiting, but looking at this video she is going to be fun to watch in Chapel Hill.
