Tar Heels Clean Up on ACC Baseball Awards

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

The ACC has announced the All-ACC teams and season accolades for baseball with multiple Tar Heels honored.

Junior 3B Colin Moran was named ACC Player of the Year, the seventh in UNC history and the first since Dustin Ackley in 2009. Moran was third in the ACC with a .376 batting average but ran away with the RBI title knocking in 83 runs putting him 17 ahead of teammate Cody Stubbs who was second. Moran was first in runs scored and third in home runs with 13.

Junior pitcher Kent Emanuel was named ACC Pitcher of the Year despite dropping his final two starts of the regular season. Emanuel was 9-3 on the season with a 2.28 ERA and led the ACC in innings pitched with 102.2. Emanuel is the first Tar Heel to win the honor since Alex White in 2008 and the third in school history.

In addition to those awards, Moran and Emanuel were both named All-ACC first team as was 1B Cody Stubbs. Freshmen OF Skye Bolt and P Trent Thornton were named to the second team.

The Tar Heels will face FSU in a non-conference game tonight at Boshammer Stadium. North Carolina opens ACC Tournament play on Thursday against Miami.
