Here is the rundown of UNC injuries as indicated by Roy Williams in his Friday press conference.
-Theo Pinson broke the fifth metatarsal in his left foot. He is out versus FSU and presumably for the foreseeable future. Roy Williams said they were "evaluating all the options"
-Nate Britt received 15 stitches in his mouth after suffering a laceration at the conclusion of Tar Heels' win over Wake Forest on Wednesday. He will not practice today and is considered questionable for Saturday.
-Joel Berry is not practicing and will be evaluated next week regarding his groin injury.
At present UNC has just one point guard available to practice and that is Marcus Paige who is also struggling with nagging injuries.
If Nate Britt were unable to play on Saturday this would be the available personnel vs FSU.
Under that scenario, for Paige to get a rest, Tokoto would be the PG, Jackson the WG and presumably Isaiah Hicks would have to move back to WF. The other option is to get some minutes with Justin Coleman out there.
You really can't make this up.
UPDATE: Full release from UNC.
University of North Carolina freshman Theo Pinson is out indefinitely with a fractured fifth metatarsal, head men’s basketball coach Roy Williams announced today.
Pinson, a small forward/guard from Greensboro, N.C., suffered the injury to his left foot in the first half of UNC’s win at Wake Forest on January 21st. Pinson was setting a screen when a player inadvertently stepped on Pinson’s right foot. The injury occurred to his left foot as he spun away from the play.
Pinson was averaging 3.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game and had a team-best assist-error ratio with 36 assists and only 16 turnovers. He scored a season-high seven points against Davidson and Notre Dame.
Pinson is one of five Tar Heels who will not dress out against Florida State tomorrow. Point guard Joel Berry II (strained groin), point guard Stilman White (stress reaction in right foot), point guard Luke Davis (fracture in right foot), forward Sasha Seymore (ACL) and Pinson will not play due to injury.
Sophomore point guard Nate Britt is also questionable for tomorrow’s game. Britt suffered a lacerated lip in the final minutes of the game at Wake Forest and received 15 stitches.
Britt was not scheduled to practice today.
