Larry Fedora provided updates on the status of suspended cornerbacks Mike Hughes and M.J. Stewart.
Via UNC press release:
North Carolina freshman cornerback Mike Hughes has been reinstated to the football team and sophomore cornerback M.J. Stewart will return next week, head coach Larry Fedora announced Wednesday following practice.
Both players had been suspended indefinitely and missed last week's Wake Forest game following an incident that took place Sunday, Oct. 4, in Chapel Hill.
"I've reinstated Mike Hughes today and he will play against Virginia this week," said Fedora following practice. "M.J. Stewart will be reinstated on Sunday and play against Pitt the next week. Based on everything I know at this time, it was the appropriate action. They still have to go through the judicial process."
Hughes and Stewart were charged last week with misdemeanor assault in connection with an altercation at a UNC fraternity on October 4th. Following their arrest UNC announced both players had been suspended indefinitely. That suspension led to Hughes and Stewart missing UNC's 50-14 win over Wake Forest.
This amounts to a one game suspension for Hughes and two games for Stewart who will miss this weekend's game versus Virginia.
